Villorba – In 1968 the science fiction writer Philip K. Dick wondered if androids dreamed of electric sheep. Today the humanoid robots imagined by that generation of writers is still far
from coming but instead there are algorithms based on machine learning systems such as the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) able to “emulate” human writing. Some say that such
algorithms will be able to replace writers, scriptwriters or journalists. Others, however, point out that the texts produced by Artificial Intelligence are only imitations and lack the
fundamental component: creativity. But what do writers think about it?
We’ll talk about it with:
MAURIZIO DE GIOVANNI, writer, screenwriter and playwright. He is the author of crime novels (the cycle of I bastardi di Pizzofalcone and that of the investigations of Commissario
Ricciardi) from which the television series of the same name have been adapted. Winner of the Scerbanenco Prize in 2012 and the Fedeli Prize in 2013, he was a finalist for the Bancarella Prize.
FRANCESCO TARGHETTA, teacher, poet and writer. He is the author of the novel in verse Perciò veniamo bene nelle fotografie and of the generational novel Le vite potenziali, winner of the
Berto Prize and the Selezione Campiello.

A.I.A. – Artificial Intelligence in Agora
Meeting and thinking about Artificial Intelligence in the virtual square of our time
The formula of A.I.A. – organized by the Cultural Association Bibliotreviso in partnership with the Municipality of Villorba and the Province of Treviso, under the patronage of the
Veneto Region, the Municipality of Treviso, ULSS 2 Marca Trevigiana and the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso and Belluno -. The project foresees at least two appointments per
month (for a total of 15 meetings) in live streaming on the Facebook pages of A.I.A. and that of the Municipality of Villorba from October 2020 to April 2021 with experts, scholars,
creatives, companies that already work, study, or apply A.I.
Cinema Corso Treviso, the most historic cinema in the city center, supports the technological avant-garde promoted by A.I.A. contributing – as a partner – to enrich the programming related
to the theme. At the multiplex of Corso del Popolo 30, from January 2021, there will be some related events, dedicated to children, adults and families with the screening of films on Artificial
Intelligence.
Lovat Bookshop supports A.I.A. with books that will allow to deepen the topics discussed online and during the days of the conference. Lovat Bookshop also provides two original exhibitions
on science, its images and the art that takes inspiration from science.
Ascopiave, one of the major national players in the energy sector, also supports A.I.A.
