The President of Unioncamere Veneto, Mario Pozza, comments on the 8 accidents that occurred on the A4 yesterday: it is an unsustainable situation. We have been repeating for months
that what is happening is unjustifiable and the numbers speak of a real war bulletin that continues to run, recording accidents almost every day. Fortunately yesterday there were no serious and
dramatic consequences as in other episodes, but this cannot go on. The Government needs to speed up its efforts to solve this huge problem: this stretch of motorway is bringing an entire economic
system to its knees. This is no longer the time for meetings, gatherings, and discussions, but it is necessary to intervene with investments in order to finally start work on this stretch of
motorway, which is now defined as “cursed”.
We are aware that at this stage there are huge problems to deal with, such as the consequences of the war, fuel and energy costs, but we are equally aware that we cannot forget the priority that
the third lane has. This infrastructure has been dragging on for years and now it is no longer an option but a necessity. We are aware that we are the locomotive of the North-East, but to be so we
must be put in a position to work. Yesterday, in fact, the accidents involved heavy goods vehicles and this means delays and inconvenience, but above all a loss of competitiveness in the long
term.
Unfortunately, the accumulated delays have also caused economic damage, because without a shadow of a doubt the costs of the construction sites have now risen, and this also falls on the
taxpayer. However, this is yet another factor that tells us that we cannot waste any more time. Every day that passes the negative effects on citizens, businesses and communities increase.
As Unioncamere Veneto we have been stressing for some time the need to find a solution and put an end to this affair. We are calling for the assumption of responsibility because every day
that is lost is likely to add to the war list.
