It is clear that the situation on this stretch of motorway is unsustainable from the point of view of road safety. What we are witnessing is a war bulletin and driving on this motorway is a
risk. The government must take responsibility and put an end to this situation, which has dragged on for too many years and is creating enormous damage in terms of victims and inconvenience for
citizens and businesses. This is why we stand shoulder to shoulder with the mayors and the Region, who are demanding that the work on the third lane be completed with the allocation of resources
and a definite timetable.
With these words the president of Unioncamere Veneto, Mario Pozza, returns to the theme of the A4 in the Venice-Trieste section, which in recent days has still recorded victims and queues of
kilometres due to road accidents.
For companies and entrepreneurs this section is a strategic junction towards the East and the delays that are recorded daily make our economic system lose competitiveness. And in this restart
phase we cannot afford it, our companies must be enabled to work without inconvenience or problems of this kind. In addition to this factor, there is a much more serious one, which is the safety of
citizens first and foremost, but also of the entrepreneurs and workers who travel this stretch of road every day with the risk of accidents. It is unacceptable that citizens and businesses should
pay the price for delays.
This infrastructural gap also weighs heavily on the territories because when accidents occur, the traffic is dumped on minor roads, becoming a huge problem for mayors and municipalities. We are
also concerned about the approaching summer season, which is crucial for the relaunch of tourism, and we cannot have tourists queuing up for hours in the sun to get to the coast.
Intervention on this infrastructure is no longer an option, but a necessity. Every day that passes without a decision risks endangering the lives of citizens and prolonging this authentic war
bulletin. The territory is united in considering this intervention a priority, as demonstrated by the axis between the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia Regions and, of course, the mayors. In recent
months I have met with the management of Autovie Venete, with whom there is total agreement on the need for investment in infrastructure to ensure the competitiveness of our companies, starting
with the resources needed for the third lane. For this reason we are waiting for a strong and clear signal from the Government for an investment that concerns road safety, the competitiveness of
businesses and citizens. It is unacceptable that these territories, which are strategic for the local and national economic system, have been blackmailed for years by a 20-kilometre stretch of
motorway.
