I am really happy to announce the approval of the resolution that, in addition to renewing the recognition to 11 districts established in 2021, recognizes 34 new trade districts in Veneto with the involvement of 55 municipalities. With this new round we arrive at 173 recognized districts with as many as 303 municipalities involved. This means that more than half of the municipalities have espoused the commerce district model that the Region wanted as a tool to revitalize urban centers through the enhancement of retail stores and premises.

This is the comment of Regional Councillor for Economic Development Roberto Marcato as he announces the council’s green light to the resolution approving the proposals for the recognition of trade districts submitted by municipal administrations in 2024.

Our commerce districts represent the strategy to revitalize urban centers and squares on which the Veneto Region is banking to revitalize retail trade, Marcato points out. In recent years it has proven to be a winning model because it allows small and medium-sized businesses to aggregate in projects that aim to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of commercial establishments, to develop innovation, and to enhance and promote local sales, food and wine and historical excellence.

A total of 34 proposals for recognition for 2024 have been received, involving a total of 55 municipalities, considering that, according to regional regulations, municipalities can also apply for recognition in associated form. Of the mentioned 34 proposals, 22 concern the establishment of urban districts, consisting of a single municipal administration, and 12 refer to territorial districts, consisting of two or more municipalities.

The resolution also accepts the petitions submitted by the municipalities of Adria (RO), Bussolengo (VR), Conegliano (TV), Montecchio Maggiore (VI), Peschiera del Garda (VR), Ponzano Veneto (TV), Susegana (TV), Valdobbiadene (TV) and Villorba (TV) to expand the perimeter of their respective trade districts recognized by the Regional Council in previous years, allowing the municipalities themselves to intervene with more effective actions involving a wider territory than the one initially identified at the time of the original recognition.

As a result of the measure approved today, the total number of commerce districts recognized by the Veneto Region also with reference to previous years will be 173 (117 urban districts and 56 territorial districts) with the overall involvement of 303 municipalities, equal to about 54% of the municipalities in Veneto.
