Cortina d’Ampezzo, 10th February 2021.

The Cortina 2021 World Alpine Ski Championships, which are currently taking place in the spectacular setting of the Queen of the Dolomites, are a major international event that is also
taking place under the banner of maximum safety for everyone – athletes, teams, managers, volunteers, media operators and, of course, the local community.
The men and women of the Alpine Troops of the Army, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and State Police are the “angels” who watch over the optimal running of the event every day, thanks
to their unquestionable professionalism, their competence in the management of major events and their profound knowledge of the Alpine environment.
The Alpine troops are present in Cortina d’Ampezzo with a contingent of about 150 units from all the Alpine regiments in Northern Italy and L’Aquila, under the coordination of
the Alpine Troops Command. They are entrusted with the tasks of organising and setting up the slopes (including grooming), basic logistics and first aid on the World Cup tracks. By taking
part in the World Championships as a protagonist, the Italian Army once again demonstrates, through the Alpine Troops, that the operational capabilities and training of units used to
operating in mountain environments can well complement the organisation of major events, constituting an important pawn in a spirit of synergy aimed at highlighting the capabilities of our
country.

The security machine also involves the Carabinieri, present at the event with the Ski Group and the mountain rescue team of the Cortina d’Ampezzo Company,
who are used to working in such a difficult mountainous area. Together with them, highly professional units from all over the country are present in Cortina. The
Carabinieri have aroused great emotion as they carried a huge tricolour down the rainbow slopes, giving the official start to the World Ski Championships. The Carabinieri will
also be a constant presence on the race tracks, where top international athletes such as Chosen Carabiniere Dominik Paris will be racing among the greats.

The Guardia di Finanza has also made a major commitment, deploying 100 soldiers (20 of whom belong to the Soccorso Alpino della Guardia di Finanza – SAGF), as well
as a doctor and an ambulance to the competition area. Overhead surveillance and air support for any emergency and rescue transport will be provided by the helicopters of the
Venice and Bolzano Air Sections, while ground patrols will ensure surveillance of the accommodation facilities and public order and safety services in and around the competition
areas. Some of the military will also contribute to the reinforcement of the traffic services in the municipality of Cortina.

Finally, the State Police is in the front line for Cortina 2021 with its dog units, bomb squads, U.o.p.i. (first intervention operating units), security and mountain
rescue service, sharpshooters and mobile units. (first intervention operating units), the mountain safety and rescue service, the sharpshooters and the mobile units
, coordinated
by the Belluno Police Headquarters, which ensure territorial control and surveillance of sensitive objectives. Former Olympian Wendy Siorpaes is also a policewoman,
who had the honour of being the Italian flag bearer during the opening ceremony of the World Championships. Finally, there are two Fiamme Oro athletes who will descend the slopes of
the Tofane in search of medals: Nadia Delago and Martina Peterlini.
