Dr. Maurizio Molinari – Head of the European Parliament Office in Milan

“Sport is an area where the competences of the European Union were introduced by the Lisbon Treaty in December 2009. Through sport, the EU wants to foster the promotion of a culture of cooperation, encourage a healthy lifestyle and fight against all forms of discrimination and racism. The European Parliament has passed several resolutions in this field over the years, organising together with other institutions initiatives such as the European Week of Sport, a series of events that every year draw attention to the importance of grassroots sporting activity throughout the Union.

Dr. Alberto Peterle – President of the GAL Prealpi e Dolomiti- Europe Direct Montagna Veneta

“The collaboration of the Europe Direct Montagna Veneta centre at the Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Day, shared in close synergy with the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso-Belluno| Dolomites, represents a significant action for the dissemination of European themes in the mountains of Veneto and in particular in the Province of Belluno, with an Olympic and Paralympic perspective. Our mission is to put the European citizen of rural and mountain areas at the centre, making him an active protagonist of European values and healthy lifestyle, where sport, youth, education, general well-being and culture play a central role”.

The EUROPE DIRECT Montagna Veneta centre, operating at the premises of the LAG Prealpi e Dolomiti, is member since May 2021 of the EUROPE DIRECT network in Italy, which in turn is part of a family of centres at European level. EUROPE DIRECT centres make Europe accessible to all citizens on the ground and enable them to participate in debates on the future of the EU. The network is managed by the European Commission and the centre can be contacted to ask questions about EU policies, programmes and priorities and to participate in events on the future of the EU. The centre is also active in schools with presentations, debates on the EU and distribution of official publications.

The centre’s catchment area is the Veneto mountains, thus covering the entire Province of Belluno and the mountain areas of the Provinces of Vicenza, Verona and Treviso. Overall, the centre covers an area equal to about 37% of the Veneto Region’s territory, with a population of about 650,000 inhabitants.
The EUROPE DIRECT Montagna Veneta centre counts on a wide range of partners amounting to approximately 30 subjects.

These include European, national, regional and local institutions, which leverage their partnership networks to bring Europe closer to its citizens, contributing responsibly to the centre’s aims. Specifically, it should be noted that the centre’s participation in the Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Day is part of the collaboration agreement signed last 2021 between GAL Prealpi e Dolomiti and the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso-Belluno|Dolomiti, aimed at the promotion and synergic implementation of activities of a European nature in the Veneto mountain area. During the Cortina event, the centre will provide participants with a European information info-point. An exhibition showcase of the centre will also be active at the Chamber of Commerce premises in Treviso.
