Art comes to Cavaso del Tomba (Tv) thanks to a group of students

The University of Udine pays tribute to Veneto artist Enrico Benetta with a short film dedicated to him

Practice and teaching come together

A group of students from the Faculty of Multimedia Science and Technology has analysed his artistic processes in a video that will be premiered on Sunday 17th October at 11am in Cavaso del Tomba.

A group of students in their second year of Multimedia Science and Technology at the University of Udine – Gabriele Pilotto, Andrea Raccanelli, Matteo Randon, Nicolò Valentino Sartor and
Federico Viol – during the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, while attending the Cinema Techniques and Languages course, accepted the challenge from their professor Marco
Rossitti
, a documentary film director, to “make a short film of their choice” on the contemporary artist Enrico Benetta, best known for his steel sculptures made from the letters and
numbers of the Bodoni typeface.

The idea came about when Nicolò Valentino Sartor took the other four young people (Gabriele Pilotto, Andrea Raccanelli, Matteo Randon and Federico Viol) to see the works in the
music theme park at The Music Country House, a magnificent 18th-century farmhouse in the Asolo hills (in Castecies).

All four of them were immediately impressed by the works, describing them as ‘jewels’.

These works are the result of a combination of ideas between Benetta and the cellist Fernando Sartor, who owns the park with his wife Valentina Cremona.

In a 15-minute docu-film, Enrico Benetta talks about his special bond with the Bodoni typeface and the reasons why he uses innovative materials to create his modern works of art.

The talk, conducted by student Alice Pizzo, and set in the artist’s studio in Montebelluna and in the park of The Music Country House, allows the viewer to understand the deep meanings
behind the stylistic choices he makes. It is a journey in which Enrico tells his story, showing his emotional side and the passion with which he creates art in the midst of nature, enhancing the
magical landscapes of the Asolo hills, which have recently become a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

To make the short film, the students used the equipment provided by the REMOTE laboratory of the University of Udine.

The short film was an important challenge for us, a dream come true. The work of planning and making the film, which took place throughout the summer, excited us, but above all allowed us to
test our knowledge with an important artist like Enrico Benetta.

The difficulties made us grow both technically and as a team, and this could be the beginning of a future collaboration between us, because we realised that each of us has talents and that
together we can do a good job!

The support of our professor Marco Rossitti has also been fundamental, as he has offered us an extraordinary opportunity and lots of valuable advice from his long professional
experience.

This short film is an example of how the University leaves the classroom and opens its doors to everyday experience, to the world around us, capturing personalities and external stimuli to
translate them, with creativity, into educational experiences that find their place within the university course. An interactive didactics that now, with Sunday’s presentation, also becomes an
opportunity for the territory and a motivation to study. After a year of lockdown, the time has finally come for students to go out, to experiment, to take part in practical workshops.

On Sunday 17 October at 11 a.m. the premiere of the short film will be screened at the Cavaso del Tomba Town Hall. The authors of the video, Artist Enrico Benetta and Professor Rossitti,
supervisor of the project, will be present.

The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Cavaso del Tomba and IpaTerre di Asolo e Montegrappa.
