Incontri Asolani, International Festival of Chamber Music.
With an extraordinary event that is part of the celebrations for the 7th centenary of the death of Dante Alighieri, Wednesday 1 September 2021 marks the opening of the 43rd edition of Incontri
, the International Chamber Music Festival under the artistic direction of Federico Pupo. This highly artistic event returns every September to the enchanting setting of Asolo, a
town that has maintained its ancient and timeless charm, inspiring writers, poets and musicians with its beauty. With the exception of the opening evening at the Duse Theatre, which is housed in
Queen Cornaro’s castle, one of the symbols of the Asolo landscape, all the events take place in the intimate and highly evocative space of the Church of San Gottardo, an architectural jewel
where art and spirituality come together. A location that makes each event special, with the stage just a few steps away from the audience who can share the emotions of the protagonists and
entertain with them at the end of the concert.
To mark the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante Alighieri‘s death, the opening of the festival features a visionary multimedia performance: StraborDante. A musical journey in nine stages
through Dante‘s Inferno. The first Canticle of the Comedy takes on a contemporary guise, a work between jazz, rock and noise, with original music by Nicola Fazzini and Alessandro
, the XY Quartet, the voice-instrument of John De Leo, multi-image images by Francesco Lopergolo that accompany the circles of hell and electronic processing by Franco
. Vincenzo De Vivo‘s dramaturgy identifies nine stages of Dante‘s journey, with a text made up of fragments of the poem (Teatro Duse, 1 September).
The next appointment brings together, in a concert entitled In Memoria, Nurit Stark and Liza Ferschtman, violins, Gareth Lubbe, viola, Zlatomir Fung, Jakob
and Giovanni Gnocchi, cellos, together with the cellos of Rovigo Cello City in a varied programme that features on the music stand pages by Luigi Boccherini, Bohuslav
, Carlo Alfredo Piatti, David Popper, Richard Georg Strauss and Anton Arensky (3 September).
The programme continues with an evening featuring the winner of the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition (6 September), while on 8 September there will be a monographic concert
dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach and his Sonatas for Cembalo certato and solo violin, with Basso per Viola da Gamba accompanied, if you like: on stage Mario Brunello on piccolo
cello, Francesco Galligioni on viola da gamba and cello and Roberto Loreggian on harpsichord.
The last appointments include the Cremona Quartet with pages dedicated to the anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi and Camille Saint-Saens (10 September), the trio formed by Sergej Krilov,
violin, Alessandro Carbonare, clarinet and Gloria Campaner, piano will perform the suite from Igor Stravinsky‘s Histoire du Soldat for violin, clarinet and piano and pieces by
Ravel, Milhaud, Gershwin, Kovacs and Kuttenberger (14 September). Finally, the programme will conclude with a concert featuring the Trio Chagall and Bruno
on viola with the Trio op. 8 in B major by Johannes Brahms and the Quartet op. 13 in C minor by Richard Strauss (17 September).
