Certifications are an important milestone. They ensure accountability, compliance with standards and help increase efficiency. After the ISO 9001 related to the services provided in our Datacenter, the certification process according to UNI EN ISO 50001:2018 has also been successfully concluded, which will allow the regional administration to pursue in a systematic and coordinated way a continuous improvement of energy performance, reducing, over time, energy consumption and related costs, and minimizing, as a consequence, climate-changing emissions and other environmental effects related to energy use. The Veneto Region is the first regional administration in Italy to achieve this goal, demonstrating strong leadership on issues such as energy conservation and sustainability, which have now become imperative given the increasing evidence of the catastrophic effects of climate change.

So says Regional Councillor for Budget and Planning, Francesco Calzavara, announcing the acquisition of ISO 50001:2018 certification for the Energy Management System, following verification sessions carried out by the company SGS Italia S.p.A.

For about a year and a half now, the Regional Council, which has already been paying attention to the sustainability of its energy supplies for a long time, has been on a path to improve the energy performance of the main offices of the Junta, the 16 large buildings located in Venice Centro Storico and Mestre, where administrative activities take place. These include, for example, the Palazzo della Regione, but also Palazzo Balbi, Palazzo Linetti and a portion of the Lybra building at the Science and Technology Park.

The Veneto Region has decided to approach this path with the highest priority and attention, creating an energy management team composed of technicians from the Purchasing and AA.GG and Asset Management directorates, an external specialist who plays the role of Energy Manager, and figures from the Directorate and the Council who confirm the strategic support and  the support for the achievement of objectives – Calzavara continues – Our commitment to the energy transition could only pass through a certified scheme, the guarantee for our stakeholders of the seriousness and the approach with which we address these issues that require and deserve attention in order to achieve concrete results. We are now working on a series of initiatives that will significantly reduce the energy needs of our buildings and related climate-changing emissions. We also place great emphasis on internal staff training to ensure rational and responsible use of energy sources. The ISO 50001 certification is certainly an important achievement, a tool that will facilitate the systematic path of energy efficiency in our offices that we started about a year and a half ago.
