A new season of events at the Museum

Once again this year the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova Museum offers the public several meetings to delve into the life and work of the Possagno sculptor.
But that’s not all: the first appointment in February will investigate Canova’s influence on the young students of the Accademia del Regno italico at Palazzo Venezia in Rome. We will discover how, thanks to his fundamental support, some of them succeeded in achieving in the artistic circles of the time.

Presentation of the exhibition project and catalog

On view at the Museo Ottocento Bologna, the exhibition “Carlotta Gargalli (1788-1840). A Bolognese Painter in Canova’s Rome,” which reconstructs Gargalli’s pictorial corpus and biographical profile, aims to explore the relationship between Canova and the young people who studied at the Academy he presided over.
Dr. Ilaria Chia and Dr. Francesca Sinigaglia, curators of the exhibition, will speak in dialogue with Dr. Moira Mascotto, director of the Canova Museum.

Antonio Canova’s La Maddalena Giacente

Presentation of the discovery of the Canova work

The discovery of the lost marble of Maddalena giacente has catalyzed the attention of art historians and Canova experts in the year of the 200th anniversary of Antonio Canova’s death.
On Saturday, March 2, we will have the pleasure of hosting Dr. Mario Guderzo, author of the book “Un capolavoro ritrovato: la Maddalena Giacente di Antonio Canova” (A Rediscovered Masterpiece: Antonio Canova’s La Maddalena Giacente) who, in dialogue with Dr. Moira Mascotto, will reconstruct the fascinating story of this sculpture and its discovery.
