The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of Kotkamills of Finland by Mayr-Melnhof (‘MM Group’) of Austria. Kotkamills manufactures
virgin-fibre cartonboard. MM Group is mainly active as a producer of both cartonboard and packaging products, in particular folding boxes.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, because the overlaps between the activities of the companies are limited and a number of strong players
would remain in the market after the merger.
