Last year’s difficult socio-economic situation, brought about by the conflict in Ukraine and the generalised increase in energy, fuel and material costs, caused prices to rise from 16% to 18% in just a few months, accompanied by 14% inflation. This is an unforeseeable scenario that has never happened before, which unfortunately has not been matched by immediate legislative measures to increase the National Transport Fund, from which, together with ticket prices (necessarily adjusted for the current year, since 1 July) public transport revenue is derived.
As a result of these critical issues, the closure of the annual budget showed a loss of EUR 2,087,325, which, however, thanks to MOM’s management skills and long experience, will be fully covered by the reserve fund. The solution, approved today in the Assembly at the proposal of the Province of Treviso, makes it possible, on the one hand, to settle the debt immediately and, on the other, to protect all the member municipalities, who have warmly welcomed MOM’s willingness to do so precisely because they will not have to make any form of provision in the budget to cover the loss, guaranteeing the continuity and regularity of services to their citizens.
In addition to the Annual Report, the company’s Sustainability Report was also approved with the utmost approval, highlighting the great positive results achieved in 2022: from the digitalisation of the travel ticket (41.25% of tickets in 2022 were purchased online, in 2021 the figure was 32%), to the subsidised fares disbursed for more than EUR 689,000 (referring to subsidised season tickets for weak users and the elderly, special trips for the PM10 alert in the Municipality of Treviso, the call for workers from the Province of Treviso that provided a 50% discount on annual season tickets, and subsidised fares for students. In addition to these, the investments in the new depots in Treviso and Castelfranco and the renewal of the fleet: 158 buses, with a replacement rate of one out of every three in service. In 2022, 5 Euro 6d hybrid-powered urban vehicles, 4 Euro 6d hybrid-powered interurban vehicles and 9 Euro 6d methane-powered interurban vehicles, 1 Euro 6d diesel hybrid urban vehicle and 4 used Euro 5 EEV articulated buses, replacing Euro 2 vehicles, were purchased. In addition, the purchase of a further 28 vehicles is planned for 2023. Taken together, these investments translate into a reduction in environmental impact and traffic pollution: 27 million passengers are transported by MOM, for a total of 962 thousand journeys made, 367 thousand km in private cars avoided; all this corresponds to 40 thousand tonnes of CO2 saved.
The Province of Treviso and the Mayors who spoke at the meeting expressed their full confidence in and great appreciation for the work of President Colladon and the Board of Directors, who had managed to manage a period full of critical issues, never failing to protect the company by foreseeing and promptly signalling the initiatives that needed to be taken to deal with the emergency caused by the increase in costs.
