Promoting good actions on sustainability and energy efficiency, reducing waste and consumption, identifying the best strategies to mitigate climate change: the Province of Treviso’s commitment to environmental protection continues thanks to the project “DECA” (Delivering Effective Climate Actions), which just in these days has obtained a funding of 253,710 euros made available by the Interreg Europe Program. This news comes just in the week of the National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles (today, February 16), which the Province joins by also renewing its participation in the “M’illumino di Meno “campaign byCaterpillar Radio2. As part of the campaign, the Province also relaunched the video game “Epic Life – The Energy Game,” created for as part of the Green Schools Competition,” dedicated to students and available at www.trevisoscuole.it.

The “DECA” project, coordinated by the Energy Agency ENERGAP with the support of the Municipality of Maribor (Slovenia), involves the Province of Treviso together with the Municipality of Silea, other local stakeholders, and several European partners, aiming to identify innovative climate adaptation policies and financing to reduce costs and improve the effectiveness of climate change approaches within public administrations.

Along with the Province, project partners are the Tartu Regional Energy Agency (Estonia), Kronoberg County (Sweden), Roermond Municipality (Netherlands), Ostend Municipality (Belgium), and Lisbon Municipality (Portugal). Project coordinator is the Energy and Climate Change Agency in Podravje (Slovenia).

Beginning this year, and for the next four years, the project partners will, on the one hand, conduct a reconnaissance of the funds available at the European level to finance activities to mitigate climate change and, on the other hand, implement specific proposals, at the regional and local level, to reduce the impact on the environment by identifying the best climate adaptation policies according to the needs of the area.

Just today marks the National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles and with great satisfaction we have received the communication of the winning of another European call, on the subject of environmental protection, thanks to the project “DECA” – explains Stefano Marcon, president of the Province of Treviso after the project on the enhancement of natural parks, the “Learn Out, presented last November at Sant’Artemio together with the GAL Alta Marca, with this new initiative we will collaborate together with a team of European and local partners with the aim of identifying, first of all, the best actions to mitigate climate change and, in particular, put into practice starting right from our territories shared strategies to reduce waste and consumption: in a word, of the impact on the environment. There are many initiatives of the Province of Treviso on this front: remember that every year we make available calls with incentives for citizens, businesses and municipalities, such as those to replace old boilers, clean chimneys and flues, upgrade green areas, dispose of and reclaim asbestos roofing, among others, with the aim of improving air quality; we carry out energy upgrades of high school buildings, which save 1,700 tons of CO2 per year; and finally, we raise awareness of energy conservation among the younger generation with the Green Schools Competition, which will award prizes in the fall to the participating high schools that have recorded the lowest consumption and come up with the most innovative projects. Today, on the occasion of “M’illumino di meno,” we also relaunched on our portal www.trevisoscuole.it the online video game “Epic Life – The Energy Game,” created by Novigos Tecno Srl also within the framework of Green Schools: a playful opportunity to learn about good practices to adopt to save energy and thus make our small but great contribution to environmental protection.”
