“SEWING A DREAM: THE DRAWINGS OF 3 FOREIGN WOMEN ARTISTS BECOME 3 ARTISTS’ DRESSES MADE BY A COLLECTIVE OF WOMEN”.
Three women, three artists from three countries: Anis Tabaree from Iran; Daniela Frumuseanu, from Romania; Emmi Kallio from Finland. Each of them will make a gift: a “sketch”
of a dress inspired by the theme “Sewing a dream”. Not a “normal” dress, but a wearable work of art.
From the creative idea to the drawings on paper and then to the three-dimensional physical reality, made of different fabrics, textiles and materials, the women of the Social and Artistic
Tailoring of Asolo will “give life” to these dreams through a constant dialogue with the artists, who will follow the progress of the creation from afar. They will be assisted by a stylist, a
dressmaker and a graphic designer who will process the designs in 3D graphics.
The initiative will be open to all women who wish to respond to this unprecedented call and volunteer to create these clothes; a call, therefore, to craft and artistic creation.
It is an invitation to all women of any age, background, social and cultural level to come forward and get together, side by side with other “fellow adventurers” to cut, sew and assemble these
three artists’ dresses. No need to know how to sew, no skill is required: this initiative aims to encourage women to cooperate and get to know each other; to bring out their playful or carefree,
emotional or reflective side; to rediscover a creativity buried by everyday work and social and family obligations; a joy of creating together, interweaving their own with other stories. Here at
the tailor’s shop we do this every day, women come and carve out a space for themselves, each one has a different story and different motivations to share, and the great enrichment lies in the
exchange: this is already our daily life, – explained Valeria Bertesina, Director of the Tailor’s Shop and curator of the Project – For Women’s Month, we wanted to do something
different. With the patronage of Confartigianato Imprese AsoloMontebelluna, the Rotary Club of Montebelluna, the Rotary Club of Asolo and Pedemontana del Grappa, the City of Asolo and the City of
Montebelluna, we wanted to propose this project aimed at involving even women who are not interested in sewing but are willing to make a contribution: actions, gestures, words, in the creation of
these three unique works.
In September, the three artist’s dresses will be shown to the public in an exhibition that will also include a series of fiber art artist’s books. The dresses will then be auctioned off to help
support the tailor’s shop, a voluntary organisation that has been offering courses in basic tailoring, embroidery, leather goods, knitting and crochet, fabric printing and much more for the past
year, in a very delicate period for the local and global community, with teachers from all over Italy and artists who also come from abroad.
Applications to take part in the project will be collected from 1 April until Easter, after which the activities will be planned to respect the different time availability of all
those who want to get involved.
