Among the topics covered by the Where to Export Map: export trends, destination markets and regional exports
Climate Risk Protection: SACE has launched a new digital tool to insure businesses against increasing exposure to extreme geological and environmental phenomena

Rome, 11 April 2024 – Promoting Italian creativity and excellence: this was the objective of the SACE Open Day that from North to South simultaneously involved the offices of Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples and Venice. The initiative dedicated to Italian companies deepened the contents of the Where to Export Map on the territory and spoke of the importance of the role of innovation and sustainability as the driving force behind exports. Also crucial was the issue of climate risks, the growing exposure to increasingly frequent extreme geological and environmental phenomena, and the need for companies to insure themselves against the resulting damage: this is why SACE launched the new digital tool ‘Climate Risk Protection’.

The event was part of SACE For Made in Italy, two weeks of free initiatives that SACE organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy. The companies involved had the opportunity to meet with SACE’s contacts in the area and with economists from the Research Office for in-depth discussions on regional exports and to address issues related to sustainability and AI, as well as to listen to the testimonies of other companies that have taken our Made in Italy to the world.

“We proudly confirm our role at the side of the Italian entrepreneurial fabric with this Open Day initiative of the 5 SACE offices, connected from North to South, aimed at promoting the Italian excellences that carry high the Made in Italy flag abroad,” said Alessandra Ricci, Managing Director of SACE. “We are in the front line with a series of events and initiatives on the occasion of the national day established by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy.

SACE’s Where to Export Map 2024 is the interactive digital world map that traces the paths to growth for companies and SMEs exporting and investing worldwide in around 200 foreign markets, using an updated set of indicators that comprehensively assess opportunity and risk profiles: credit risk, political risk and socio-environmental risks – the latter developed in collaboration with the Enel Foundation – including climate change, social welfare and energy transition. In this context, new technologies and AI are transforming economies by ensuring increases in productivity, growth and resilience. In fact, the SACE Studies Office has analysed that a country that invests in new technologies and AI in one-third of its sectors and increases productivity by 20 per cent generates a multiplier effect on the entire economy of 1.3 per cent annually for the first five years and 0.6 per cent in the first ten. On the other hand, if one were to assume a full-scale investment in a country’s economy, the annual increase would be 1.5% for about 10 to 20 years.

Protezione Rischio Clima (Climate Risk Protection) is the new digital tool aimed at all Italian companies that responds to the need to insure against damage caused by climate risks, which are no longer negligible in the face of growing exposure to increasingly frequent extreme geological and environmental phenomena. The new policy offers companies the possibility of insuring land and buildings, plant and machinery, and industrial and commercial equipment against damage caused by natural disasters and catastrophic events such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides.

SACE is the Italian insurance-financial group, directly controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, specialised in supporting companies and the national economic fabric through a wide range of instruments and solutions to support competitiveness in Italy and worldwide. For over forty-five years, the SACE Group has been the reference partner for Italian companies exporting and growing in foreign markets. It also supports the banking system to facilitate, with its financial guarantees, companies’ access to credit to support their liquidity and investments for competitiveness and sustainability within the Italian Green New Deal, starting from the domestic market. SACE is present worldwide with 13 offices in target countries for Made in Italy, with the aim of building relationships with leading local counterparts and, through dedicated financial instruments, facilitating business with Italian companies. With a portfolio of insured transactions and guaranteed investments amounting to EUR 260 billion, the group is at the side of about 50 thousand companies, mainly SMEs, supporting their growth in Italy and in about 200 countries worldwide.
