The SAVE Group has long been focused on the activation of a direct flight between Venice Airport, the country’s third intercontinental airport, and China.

Today, on the occasion of the meeting “Marco Polo, a Bridge between Europe and China. Il Passato che ispira il Futuro” (“Marco Polo, a Bridge between Europe and China. The Past Inspiring the Future”), promoted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, SAVE organised a meeting attended by the President of the SAVE Group, Enrico Marchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Wentao, aimed at exploring the possibilities of implementing a direct air link, a theme that had already emerged during the Ministers’ speeches at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

The meeting was particularly fruitful and confirmed the interest of both government delegations in giving new impetus to the realisation of the project.

In the year that celebrates the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo, today’s meeting with Ministers Tajani and Wang Wentao was a fundamental opportunity for us to share the importance and feasibility of a direct flight between Venice and China,” says Enrico Marchi, President of the SAVE Group – “This is an objective we have been focusing on for some time, which meets the needs of the Marco Polo airport’s large catchment area, with a view to further developing and consolidating the historical, cultural and economic ties that have always distinguished relations between our city and China“.
