The Chamber of Commerce believes and invests in activities to support for the school-to-work transition

The issue of employment mismatching is increasingly on the agenda – comments Mario Pozza, president of the Treviso-Belluno|Dolomiti Chamber of Commerce – and orientation activities aimed at schools and universities become, therefore, more fundamental than ever to look to the future of our territories that owe their success to enlightened, creative and challenging entrepreneurs and a unique network of people and collaborators. People, human resources thus represent the best of investments for the socioeconomic future of a territory. Orienting and creating a dialogue between businesses and education means giving a footprint of innovation and dynamism to a territory. A process that certainly makes our businesses more attractive to young people who are approaching work or who are studying with the goal of working in cutting-edge companies even if they are small.
The Chamber of Commerce therefore believes very much in this function that the reform has assigned to us so we have decided to invest in the many the projects developed and successfully completed in recent years. We meet, every year, thousands of students, professors and parents to whom we tell, thanks also to data from the Unioncamere Excelsior survey, the evolving scenarios of the labor market and professions, so that they can make increasingly informed choices. In addition, I think that more and more students need to have concrete experiences, and that’s why as a Chamber entity we propose different PCTOs to schools that can, for example, bring them face to face with the issues of green and digital transitions. Starting this year, moreover, students will be able to certify the skills they acquire in these innovative PCTOs, obtaining digital certificates to be included in their curriculum.
As for the shortage of specialized technical figures required by our companies, our Chamber of Commerce is focusing heavily on ITS course training, organizing two calls for applications to boost enrollment in ITS courses in the provinces of Treviso and Belluno.
Not to be forgotten, then, is the collaboration with universities, particularly Ca’ Foscari of Venice, with whom we have been working for years, bringing young recent graduates to internships in local businesses, half of which turn into hires.

The reform of chambers of commerce has enhanced the functions of career guidance and support for school-university-job transition. The Treviso-Belluno|Dolomiti Chamber of Commerce believed so much in this institutional mission that it established a specific Office “Orientation to Work and Professions” (JOB Office).
One of the main activities of “JOB” concerns the organization of meetings on the evolving scenarios of the labor market and professions, in order to encourage students to make more informed choices in the continuation of their education or in the search for job opportunities. The presentation of these evolutionary scenarios rests on data from the Unioncamere Excelsior survey on the professional needs and degrees most in demand by companies in the area, but also on the various research activities conducted by the Studies and Statistics Sector in which the JOB Office is incardinated. These activities, since the beginning of 2023, have seen the participation of more than 2,000 people, including students, teachers and parents.

Also with regard to high schools, the Chamber offers several PCTOs (Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation), which have led many students to think about, for example, so-called “hybrid jobs,” the importance of soft skills, or developing workshops with companies on real and current issues such as green and digital transitions.

Since 2022, the Chamber of Commerce has also been collaborating with the ITS Academy Foundation and has issued two calls for proposals to incentivize, through scholarships, enrollment in ITS courses activated in the provinces of Treviso or Belluno. In 2022, €62,200 was disbursed. The second call has a budget of € 80,000.00 and applications can be submitted until December 31, 2023.

Still on the topic of university-work transition, the Institution collaborates with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice to facilitate the placement of young recent graduates in local companies through the tool of extracurricular internships. Out of 45 completed 6-month internships, almost half were converted into employment in the same company. Each intern received an internship grant worth 4,000 euros from the Chamber of Commerce. On the chamber website, companies can find all the information they need to host an internship.

Finally, the last frontier concerns skills certification: in the pipeline, in particular, circular economy projects with schools, at the end of which students will be able to receive digital certificates on the entrepreneurial, digital and green skills they will have been able to learn and experience directly.
