Treviso, 10th February 2021. An organisational machine of which we can be proud – these are the words of Mario Pozza, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso –
Belluno|Dolomiti -. I was able to see for myself when I went to Cortina and saw how the whole area is manned and people are accompanied and protected.
There are 70 nations with their own delegations of athletes and staff at a time of global pandemic, but the area responds and welcomes them in complete safety, offering an all-Italian welcome.
This is evidence of a world championship that will set in motion an organisational machine that will see Cortina 2026 even more prepared and determined.
The Chamber of Commerce is already working on it. There are projects in the pipeline and on paper. There are agreements with civil and military institutions to create an efficient, innovative
and digital network.
My compliments go to the Provincial Command of the Belluno Carabinieri, who are guarding the territory and have managed to excite the whole world by carrying the tricolour flag on the day of
the start of “Cortina 2021”. My heartfelt thanks go to them and to the contribution they make to the World Cup and to the entire national sport. We can assure the International Olympic Committee,
which is keeping a watchful eye on this World Championships, that we are in good hands – concludes Pozza.
The Alpine Skiing World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo are a complex event that must be managed with an integrated programme of resources to deal with any unforeseen events.
More than 70 delegations from the most disparate nations to be managed in the midst of a pandemic, alone, constitute a great challenge from the point of view of organisation – assures the
Commander of the Belluno Carabinieri, Lieutenant Colonel Francesco Rastelli.
In this not exactly easy scenario, the Carabinieri took up the challenge, as did the other state institutions, and contributed with all its experience and highly specialised assets to make the
event safe from every point of view.
The local Carabinieri Company and the various stations permanently present in the Ampezzo basin, but also in Comelico and Cadore, were reinforced by several hundred soldiers.
Among them are highly specialised units such as the bomb squad, dog handlers with anti-explosive units and sharpshooters. They are flanked by the SIO Teams, which are highly trained to control
particularly hostile territories due to their orography.
The anti-terrorist set-up deployed is important.
In direct contact with the athletes will be the Carabinieri skiers, who will be in charge of monitoring the slopes; they will also include a mountain rescue team.
Not to be forgotten – concludes Commander Rastelli – is the health team deployed by the Corps to ensure perfect compliance with the World Cup health prevention plan.
