Oscar Bernardi, president of Confartigianato Imprese Marca Trevigiana: “We must insist on collaboration with schools. But we also need a cultural action on families, in particular regarding the choice of study paths”.

Treviso is the fifth province in Italy for robot manufacturing. The Marca Trevigiana counts 22 companies out of the 524 in the whole Italian territory, with a specialisation index two and a half times higher than the national average. “This figure is just the tip of the iceberg of an innovation process affecting our economy,” emphasises Oscar Bernardi, president of Confartigianato Imprese Marca Trevigiana. “This is due to a complex of factors, from the presence of advanced mechanics to the dynamism of innovative start-ups and the role of the university. Artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly entering craft enterprises and are intertwined with a growing use of robotic systems. Unfortunately, the problem of finding specialised professional figures remains open.”
In Veneto, out of 34,950 positions with high demand for advanced digital 4.0 skills, as many as 20,270 are difficult to find, a percentage of 58.6, which places the region in fourth place in Italy.

Among the asked professions in the digital transition are textile printing machine operators, meat-preserving machine operators, with 100% of the difficulties in finding them. This is followed by electrical engineers (91.9%), electrotechnicians (91.5%), information engineers (88.9%), machine tool mechanics (88.3%), and automobile mechanics, repairers and maintenance workers, together with workers in automatic and semi-automatic machine tools (84%).
Artisan enterprises in the Marca Trevigiana, in line with data from the Veneto region, find it very difficult to find personnel with skills in mathematical and IT languages and methods: 60.9% of the required workers are difficult to find. The shortage of specialised personnel is also felt for posts requiring basic digital skills: 50.6% are difficult to fill.

“The shortage of specialised personnel is a transversal problem in every sector of the Treviso economy,” says president Oscar Bernardi, “but it is felt more strongly in those sectors that are pushing towards innovation. We must insist on collaboration with schools, so that these figures are trained. But cultural action on families is also needed, particularly with regard to the choice of study paths. Confartigianato is increasingly committed to presenting to the public the growing specialisation of MPIs in the Marca Trevigiana. It is a fundamental asset to give our economy a future, but also a great opportunity for our young people to find stimulating and advanced employment. A fulfilling job, close to the community to which one belongs.”

The recent report by Confartigianato on the occasion of the third national craftsmanship day came to demonstrate the specialisation of handicrafts in the province of Treviso. The Marca Trevigiana is among the most specialised provinces in eight manufacturing sectors: food; manufacture of leather goods; manufacture of machinery and equipment; wood and cork products; processing of non-metallic minerals; manufacture of paper and paper products; and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
“Our province is at the top,” notes president Oscar Bernardi, “also in software production, IT consultancy and related activities. This is a sign that the Marca Trevigiana has nothing to envy from other European areas. Our companies are innovating more than the public perception. This is why it is important that the families and young people of Treviso are increasingly aware of the opportunities that our area is creating.”
