Report

Women’s enterprises in the province of Treviso as at 31 December 2022

As at 31st December 2022 there were 16,172 women’s enterprises in the province of Treviso, representing 20.3% of the total number of women’s enterprises active in the Marca. More than 43,000 employees are employed in them (13.3% of the total number of employees in the province).

Compared to December 2021, women’s enterprises increased by +151, in addition to the +123 recorded in the same period last year.

The positive dynamic of the last year is sustained by activities related to business services (+141). The positive sign is generalised, but professional scientific and technical activities (consulting and management) and real estate activities in particular are growing. In the advanced tertiary sector, the share of women’s enterprises is 18.8% of the sector’s total enterprises.

There is also a year-on-year increase in the number of womens enterprises in the personal services sector (+28). Here more than half of the enterprises are female-led, most of them being hairdressing or beauty salons.

Construction (+23 locations compared to December 2021) and manufacturing (+18, in contrast to the fashion system, which lost -9 enterprises) are also positive. In manufacturing, the incidence of women’s enterprises accounts for 17.1% of the total, below the provincial average, but the weight rises to 41% in the fashion system.

The same negative trend is observed for agriculture (-26 female enterprises compared to December 2021), retail (-28) and catering (-21). The decline is not gender-related because it is these sectors as a whole that are contracting.

9.3% of women’s enterprises are also run by young people (1,502 enterprises), the incidence rises to 13.8% for those predominantly or exclusively run by foreigners (2,238) and reaches 22.2% for all craft enterprises (3,596).

Women’s enterprises in the province of Belluno as at 31 December 2022

As at 31 December 2022, there were 2,900 women’s enterprises in the province of Belluno, representing 21.1% of the total number of active Belluno enterprises, employing almost 8,000 people (12.7% of the total provincial enterprise workforce).

Compared to December 2021, women’s enterprises are down by -34, last year they were up by +47 locations.

The negative trend in women’s enterprises is affected by retail trade (-27 locations on an annual basis), but the downturn affects the entire sector, regardless of gender. The negative sign is also observed for agriculture (-10) and catering (-9). In retail trade and catering about one third of the enterprises are female-led.

The year-on-year comparison sees a slight increase for manufacturing activities (+6 locations compared to December 2021, thanks in particular to metalworking) and for activities related to personal services, the latter sector consisting mainly of hairdressing and beauty salons and increased by +7 compared to last year.

The incidence of female entrepreneurship is significant in the manufacturing enterprises of the fashion system and in personal services where more than half of the enterprises are predominantly or exclusively run by women.

Construction and business service activities were stable year-on-year.

9.9 per cent of women’s enterprises are also young (286 enterprises), 10.3 per cent are predominantly or exclusively foreign-led (298) and 21.5 per cent are craft enterprises (623).
