America Buys Italian – October 3-5
U.S.-based grocery retail buyers and Italian food and beverage producers are invited to join the IACC in Brescia, Italy, from October 3-5 for “America Buys Italian,” a top-tier B2B summit connecting local Italian food and beverage producers with leading buyers and purchasing managers from major U.S. grocery chains. Buyers and purchasing directors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with local companies, discover and source products and make new and profitable connections with Italian specialty food producers.

Italian producers, on the other hand, will meet with and present their products to representatives from major U.S. grocery retail chains such as Lowes Foods, Sendik’s Food Market, NS Grocery, Busch’s Fresh Food Market and Buehler’s Fresh Foods, providing them with a unique and targeted opportunity for market entry in the following states: New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, California and Oregon.

Marketing Strategies with Neuromarketing Concepts – October 18 @ 12 p.m.
During this fascinating workshop co-organized with the Small Business Administration (SBA), participants will delve into the emerging field of neuromarketing, the study of the brain to predict and potentially even manipulate consumer behavior and decision making. SBA Economic Development Specialist Man-Li Lin will help participants gain a greater understanding of how neuromarketing efforts can help inform creative advertising, product development, pricing, and other marketing areas.

WEBINAR: Grants for R&D: SBIR and STTR – November 15 @ 12 p.m.
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) with the potential for commercialization. By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated, and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.

WEBINAR: Employee Retention Credit – September 7
The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) – sometimes called the Employee Retention Tax Credit or ERTC – is a refundable tax credit for businesses and tax-exempt organizations that were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last month, Michelle Schneider, Tax Principal at IACC member Grassi Advisors & Accountants, provided an in depth overview of this pandemic relief program and explained the requisites businesses need to qualify for the tax credit to seminar participants across a variety of industry sectors. Thanks to Michelle and Grassi for sharing their expertise with us!

Meet the Member: Rimadesio USA – September 19
A lovely evening was had by all who attended our September 19 Meet the Member event at Rimadesio’s elegant Madison Avenue showroom. Guests had the opportunity to browse Rimadesio’s high-end furniture and design accessories and learn about the brand while networking with fellow members and friends.

WEBINAR: Writing Business Plan – September 20
A good business plan guides you through each stage of starting and managing a business and serves as a roadmap for how to structure, run, and grow your business. Participants who joined us on September 20 for “Writing a Business Plan” were privy to a step-by-step primer on business plan basics presented by SBA Economic Development Specialist Man-Li Lin. During this practical session, attendees learned how to structure a compelling business plan and received valuable information about the resources and assistance available to small businesses through the SBA’s resource partners: SCORE, SBDC and WBC.

Aperitivo Italiano at Spring Place – September 27
Members gathered at Spring Place on September 27 to mix, mingle and get to know other IACC members over drinks at Tribeca’s hip members-only club. Thanks to all who attended as well as to our gracious host, IACC member Spring Place, for an elegant and enjoyable evening of cocktails, conversation and networking!

Sud e Futuri – September 28-30
IACC Executive Director Federico Tozzi traveled to Castellabate, Italy, to take part in Sud e Futuri, a 3-day symposium organized by the Magna Grecia Foundation. Now in its fifth edition, Sud e Futuri brings together scholars and experts in a variety of fields to explore the future of Southern Italy through an in depth examination of the strategic sectors that are crucial for economic growth in the South. Federico was a featured speaker a panel discussion entitled, “Investire nel Sud Italia,” which highlighted opportunities for investment in Southern Italy, with a focus on emerging areas of opportunity for U.S. investors.

EYE Intern “Spotted” at Università Cattolica Alumni Event

Chiara Mascitti has an EYE toward success! Chiara is currently taking part in our Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) program as an intern at Sally Fischer Public Relations, an international boutique-style public relations firm in the lifestyle arena. IACC Executive Director Federico Tozzi caught up with Chiara at a recent Università Cattolica alumni event at NYU’s Kimmel Hall. Chiara told us that her work at Sally Fischer has given her hands-on experience with the American approach to media relations, publicity, social media, special events, marketing, and brand management. She’s looking forward to applying her new skill sets and cultural competencies when she returns to Italy to continue her career in PR.

IACC Joins Forces with National Grocers Association
 

The IACC has entered into an official partnership with National Grocers Association (NGA), the trade association representing the independent supermarket industry. The partnership between NGA and the IACC will include participation in conferences, professional development opportunities, and sharing of knowledge and expertise in the fields of specialty food/beverage and grocery retail.

The IACC’s partnership with NGA opens exciting new avenues, not only for our two associations, but for the members, grocers and local producers we represent. With this strategic alliance, we are essentially creating a direct line of contact between the U.S.’s leading independent grocery retailers and local Italian suppliers, providing retailers and producers alike with the opportunity to make inroads into previously unexplored and untapped markets. NGA President and CEO Greg Ferrara and five NGA member retailers are currently in Bresia, Italy, taking part in the second edition of the IACC’s America Buys Italian B2B specialty food summit.

Lewis Brisbois Shares Expertise on Proposed New York Limited Liability Transparency Act
IACC member Frank Cerza, Partner and Co-Chair of Real Estate & Land Use at Lewis Brisbois, recently authored an informative article on the proposed New York Limited Liability Transparency Act which would require the disclosure of the beneficial owners of both domestic and foreign LLCs that are registered to conduct business in the State of New York.

While there is no certainty regarding Governor Hochul’s endorsement of the LLC Transparency Act, LLCs already operating in, or intending to do business in New York should be prepared for this potential reporting requirement. By engaging in proactive planning, LLC owners can be better prepared for compliance and the potential chilling impact resulting from the enactment of the LLC Transparency Act.
