Commission: Two new Directors appointed in the Secretariat-General

Yesterday, the European Commission decided to appoint Ms Martine Deprez to the function of Director ‘Decision-making & Collegiality’ in the Secretariat-General (SG) and Mr Michael Wimmer to the function of Director ‘Strategy, Better Regulation & Corporate Governance’ in SG, as of 1st September 2020, after an ordinary selection procedure. With these two appointments, the Commission avails itself of two experienced professionals with a deep understanding of the workings of the European Commission.Ms Deprez, a Belgian national, did her entire career in SG where she is currently Head of Unit of ‘Working Methods and Decision-making Process’. Before, she was Deputy Head of Unit of ‘Programming and Resources’, after having occupied various positions as Policy officer, notably in charge of the coordination of policies in the field of justice, crisis management or fight against drugs. She led several projects of digital transformation in the context of decision-making. She started her career in the Commission in 1990 as Team Leader in a Publication Unit. Mr Wimmer, an Austrian national, is currently Head of Unit of ‘Multiannual Financial Framework and Annual Management Cycle’ in SG, after having headed other units in SG such as ‘Corporate Management, Budget and Administration’, ‘Internal market and Competitiveness’ and ‘Coreper II’. He joined the European Commission in 2003 as Administrator in the Directorate-General for Employment and Social Affairs, after having been Administrator and Legal officer in the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Austria, Attaché in the Austrian Embassy in Paris and Legal Adviser in the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union.
