Exhibition Déodat de Dolomieu. Curiosando tra i taccuini di viaggio e nella vita avventurosa del padre delle Dolomiti (Déodat de Dolomieu. Looking through his travel notebooks and the adventurous life of the father of the Dolomites) - at the Museo Paleontologico "Rinaldo Zardini" in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The exhibition, dedicated to Luigi Zanzi (1938-2015), a profound scholar of Dolomieu in the history of the Alps, aims to highlight the scientific and human personality of one of the greatest scientist-mountaineers of the 18th century.
Déodat de Dolomieu (1750-1801), geologist and philosopher, was a cadet of a family of the French nobility, a knight of Malta with an incredibly adventurous life, interrupted by imprisonment "of state" by order of the Queen of Naples and by his early death at the end of a journey in the Alps: the last of the many journeys that the exhibition reconstructs on the basis of his "rediscovered" notebooks at the Academy of Sciences in Paris; particular attention is paid to the journey of 1789 to the Tyrol and the Venetian Alps, which made him famous by linking his name to the mountain group of the Dolomites.
The initiative is promoted by the Giovanni Angelini Foundation - Centre for Mountain Studies of Belluno and the Maria Giussani Bernasconi Foundation of Varese, in collaboration with the Regole and the Municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo, with the patronage of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and the support of Cortina Banca, the local section of the CAI and the Cortina Cooperative.
In relation to anti-counterfeiting measures, it is suggested to register at the Museum's telephone number: 0436.875502.
The exhibition will be open from 4 August to 10 October 2021. We look forward to seeing you!
