The President of Unioncamere Veneto, Mario Pozza, commented on the European Union's decision to recognise the Prosek denomination: - This is a very serious decision that will cause enormous damage to a symbol of Italian products throughout the world. We stand by President Zaia, the associations and entrepreneurs to take all necessary steps to ensure that this decision does not become final. The Ministry of Agriculture needs to take a clear and effective stance to protect Prosecco.
Behind the success of Prosecco there are years of sacrifice by our producers who have worked day after day to make it a product known and loved throughout the world. The history of Tocai should have taught us something, and that's why we must prevent it from happening again. I hope that our government, and especially the Minister for Agriculture, will be able to protect our producers, behind whom there are companies, jobs and the beating heart of the economic fabric of a territory.
The Prosek affair could be repeated, not least because the Veneto Region is a veritable treasure trove of products that are recognised at European level. This is why it is necessary to draw up a list of typical products to be defended, on which the Government and the Ministry must start working to prevent attacks such as these, which undermine the work carried out for years by institutions and producers.
