Veneto candidacy to host Tour de France Grand Départ has characterized the first day of ExpoBici, the International Bike Show which has began in Padua.
The project has been described by Eleonora Bottecchia, president of VeneTour, the Committee which has been working since 2011 for Veneto to host the Grand Départ of Tour de France, the third most important sports event in the world after the football World Championship and the Olimpics. On that occasion, the candidacy shirt has been given to Massimo Bitonci, mayor of Padua and to Daniele Villa, CEO of Padova Fiere Spa.
For Veneto, a region with a strong cycling vocation, it is a great opportunity: if the Tour de France came to the region, it would bring 120 million Euros of overall turnover in 5 days, four days of worldwide telecast in 200 countries, 2,000 journalists covering the event, 3 billion television contacts, hotel booked up at 99% within a radius of 100 km.
Padua is just the opening leg of an intense promotional tour which, together with Veneto Region, will go on at fairs and at other national and international events. Next stage will be at Fieracavalli in Verona from 6th to 9th November.
