(Padua-Treviso-Venice-Rovigo – 21.07.2023) – Salvatore Pisani is the new President of the Tourism and Culture Group of Confindustria Veneto Est for the four-year period 2023-2027. After his election by the Group Assembly, the new President formally took office with the renewal of the Association’s General Council.
Originally from Ischia and Venetian by adoption, 52-year-old Salvatore Pisani is General Manager of the Hotel Splendid Venice – Starhotels Collezione, after having held managerial positions at The Westin Excelsior and Hotel Danieli in Venice, Hotel Villa Cipriani in Asolo, The West Excelsior in Florence, Sheraton Park Tower Hotel in London, Prince de Galles in Paris, and Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich.
The team is completed by Vice Presidents Cristina Borile (G. B. Thermae Hotels – Abano Terme) with proxy for Padova-Terme, Roberta Basso (Basso Hotels & Resorts – Treviso) with proxy for Treviso, Mauro Rosatti (Albarella – Rosolina) with proxy for Rovigo-Rosolina.

Tourism in 2023 in the provinces of Padua, Treviso, Venice and Rovigo shows a recovery and growth trend that gives confidence, driven by the return of foreigners. From January to April, the Eastern Veneto area recorded a total of approximately 2.8 million arrivals (+47% compared to the same period in 2022) and 6.6 million overnight stays (+34.5%), still below pre-pandemic levels but close to closing the gap (-1.7% arrivals, -4.5% overnight stays compared to 2019). A trend led by foreigners (+76.0% arrivals, +54.4% overnight stays compared to 2022), which mainly rewarded cities of art, seaside resorts and spas (source: Veneto Region). In Venice hotels in particular, the room occupancy rate from January to June 2023 reached 65%, in line with 2019. And the average revenue per room, considering inflationary dynamics, is also around 30% higher (source: STR). Moreover, according to the forecasts, this year Veneto could be the second region in terms of growth in tourist flows, after Trentino, with +14.8% in overnight stays (73.3 million) and +11.0% in arrivals (19.1 million) by the end of the year. A flow that is expected to bring tourist spending of €12.6 billion (+23.5% compared to 2022), putting Veneto in second place, behind Tuscany (source: Demoskopika).

I would like to thank my colleagues for their trust and great teamwork at the service of a sector, tourism and culture, which is the gateway to Made in Italy, a flywheel for territories, manufacturing, and attractiveness, – says Salvatore Pisani, President of the Tourism and Culture Group of Confindustria Veneto Est. – A strategic sector that is in the process of restarting in Veneto, from cities of art to seaside resorts, spas, and UNESCO sites. Further proof has come from the Redentore, an event that attracts tourists from all over the world to Venice and that, compared to 2022, has seen the average revenue per room increase by 15%. This is the right direction to follow: quality, range of services and uniqueness of offer. A commitment that sees us at the forefront with a series of very precise objectives: no more short rentals, yes to the entrance ticket, yes to major quality events, attention to urban decorum in historical centres and beach tourism, which is increasingly important for our destination. As the Tourism and Culture Group, we will continue the path we have taken in the preparation of talent for our sector and in the protection of the territory, in synergy with the Region. I am referring in particular to the project to define how to stabilise beach maintenance on the Lido and throughout the Veneto region, for which we have already sent our observations document to the President of the Conference of Mayors.

TOURISM AND CULTURE GROUP: ART, WELLNESS, SLOW. MANY TOURISMS, SAME EXCELLENCE
Born from the merger between the Tourism Group of Assindustria Venetocentro and the Tourism and Services Group of Confindustria Venezia-Rovigo, the new Tourism and Culture Group of Confindustria Veneto Est represents about 150 companies, most of them medium-large, with over 6,500 employees (both permanent and seasonal). A range of excellent facilities, hotels, service activities supporting tourism, travel agencies and cultural activities, including international realities such as Fondazione Solomon R. Guggenheim, Fondazione Teatro La Fenice, Fondazione Querini, Fondazione Cini, Palazzo Grassi, Punta della Dogana. An attractive tourist ecosystem, within a metropolitan area with strong potential and specific vocations: art tourism in Venice and Padua, conference and wine tourism in Treviso, wellness and health tourism with hotels in the Euganean spa area of Padua, slow tourism in the Polesine area.
