Valdobbiadene, 02 October 2023 – Just two and a half months after the opening of the Walk to the public, we are receiving bookings from all over the world, confirming that this project is the best business card to promote the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene and to develop that slow tourism that must be the target of a UNESCO site like ours, which must first and foremost think about protecting its landscape. We are gratified that the Hills attract quality tourism and not mass tourism, in line with the direction we have always taken. Every day, the Association receives emails from tourists confirming that our Walk is receiving the right appreciation and that we are on the right track.
These are the words of Marina Montedoro, president of the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, commenting on the numbers and the extraordinary success that the Cammino delle Colline del Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene, inaugurated last 8 July in Vidor in the presence of the governor of Veneto, Luca Zaia, is enjoying among tourists and visitors.
Of the more than 1,000 walkers who booked the walk, almost 400 filled out the online form on the Association’s website to download their credential, while the others went directly to the tourist and accommodation facilities in the area, where it is also possible to ‘collect’ the stamps testifying to the completion of the stage or the entire route.
The walkers come 50% from Italy and the other half from as many as 19 countries, including Italy, and have an average age of between 45 and 55 years (60-70%), with a slight prevalence of women (60%). These are ‘niche’ and average high-spending tourists. Countries of origin include China, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, the USA, Cameroon, Austria, Germany, France, Poland, Belgium, Romania, Norway, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Croatia and Estonia.
A success, that of the Cammino del Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene, which is also generating an important induced activity in economic terms for the entire UNESCO area, starting from the wineries, agritourisms, restaurants and accommodation facilities. Not only are we seeing an increase in the number of small accommodation facilities such as agritourisms and holiday homes, linked to the territory and its products, but also in tourist services, starting with so-called wine tourism.
