Belluno, January 19, 2025 – The extraordinary success of the World Cup ski event in Cortina demonstrates that this territory is ready for the Olympics and for a future of sustainability, to be handed down to future generations. We are facing a year full of challenges but richer than ever in opportunities. From today, an Olympic mobilization must begin, and everyone – politics, institutions, trade associations, unions, and civil society – must row in the same direction, each playing their part.
This was stated by Lorraine Berton, President of Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti and the National Technical Group for Major Events, the Olympics, and Mountain Economy, specifically established by President Emanuele Orsini, on the sidelines of the Women’s World Cup ski event held in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno).
In the coming months, much of our future and international credibility will be at stake. We must accelerate on all fronts, always keeping in mind that through the Olympics, we are building the Veneto of tomorrow.
Our horizon must be projected at least to 2050; for this reason, we must focus on the “legacy,” that is, the legacy this event can leave on the territory in terms of infrastructure, services, innovation, and trust.
As a first step, we need to raise awareness about the event, starting with schools: the Olympics must become a tool to stop the exodus of our young people and attract new resources, Berton emphasizes.
On this, we must work as never before in recent history: even the increase in labor demand for the Games must be managed with foresight, creating jobs and opportunities for the future, fostering dialogue between tourism, services, and manufacturing. This challenge concerns the entire economic world of Veneto, which has always been a symbol of the most authentic Made in Italy and the backbone of the country. A strategic year is opening up: we are called to an unprecedented effort. It is the time for responsibility and a truly effective team effort, Berton appeals, who finally dedicates a thought to the athletes who were protagonists of the World Cup: We have seen the magnificent Sofia Goggia and the spectacular Federica Brignone: they are the face of a country that can rise to any challenge, of a generation of women who know how to make a difference. Our encouragement and thanks go to them, as well as to all the athletes.
