The European Road Safety Charter, the largest civil society platform dedicated to road safety and led by the European Commission, is inviting applications for its 2025 Excellence in Road Safety Awards. These awards celebrate the achievements of charter members, including organisations, authorities, and companies, that have made significant contributions towards fostering safer roads across Europe.
The award categories for 2025 are: best projects addressing driving under the influence or distracted driving; best road safety education projects; best projects addressing the road safety of older people; best projects applying technology to road safety; and the Urban Road Safety award which is open to local and regional authorities.
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism said: “Last year alone, 19,800 lives were lost in road crashes across the EU – an unacceptable toll that demands action. The Excellence in Road Safety Awards shine a spotlight on road safety and recognise those making a real difference in protecting lives. If you have best practices to share, we encourage you to join the European Road Safety Charter and apply for our awards. Together, we can drive change and make Europe’s roads safer for all. I look forward to your applications!”
Applications close on 16 May 2025 (midnight CEST). Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 16 October 2025, in Brussels and online.
