Despite the crisis in the automotive industry, the artisan car supply chain in the Treviso area is holding up well. This sector includes 1,054 artisan businesses operating in maintenance and repair, accounting for 85.5% of all businesses in the sector, which have grown by 1.6% compared to a decline of 1.4% in Veneto and 0.6% nationally. Body shops are also doing well, with 287 artisan businesses, equal to 87.2% of the total in the sector, with an increase of 1.1%, better than Veneto, which saw a decline of 0.7%.

Completing the supply chain are 38 small businesses that manufacture parts and accessories for vehicles, accounting for 88.4% of all businesses in the sector in the province and employing 462 people, 32.3% of the total.

These figures must be correlated with the characteristics of the vehicle fleet – points out Armando Sartori, president of Confartigianato Imprese Marca Trevigiana In the province of Treviso, only 7.4% of vehicles are less than two years old, which places us in 39th place among Italian provinces. Conversely, 36.3% of cars are more than 15 years old. Those under ten years old account for less than half, 45.2%.

In 2024, there were 621,087 cars on the road in the Treviso area, of which 378,162 (60.9%) were Euro 5 and 6, while 238,440 were Euro 4 or below. Diesel-powered cars accounted for the lion’s share (259,403, or 41.8%), almost on a par with gasoline-powered cars (258,294, or 41.6%). There are 45,177 hybrid cars (7.3%), while electric cars number only 4,344 (0.7%), which nevertheless places Treviso in 30th place among provinces in terms of the number of hybrid and electric cars.

Faced with rising car prices – President Armando Sartori points out that Treviso residents tend to delay investment and focus more on maintenance. It should also be added that in Italy, the increase in maintenance prices has been more moderate than in other European countries: +2.8% compared to +3.2% in France, 3.3% in Spain, and +5.6% in Germany. However, the process of updating the vehicle fleet accentuates the problem of skilled labor shortages. In Veneto, 52.6% of positions require digital skills, and this figure rises to 72.6% for green skills.
