Dear IACC Members,
As you are likely aware, today, the Supreme Court delivered a landmark ruling, striking down a significant portion of President Donald Trump’s far-reaching global tariff agenda in a 6–3 decision authored by Chief Justice John Roberts. The Court concluded that the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not authorize the President to impose across-the-board tariffs on foreign imports, underscoring that the constitutional authority to levy taxes and tariffs resides with Congress, rather than the executive branch.
While the decision is constitutional in scope, its most immediate consequences will be felt at the operational and commercial level. For the Italy–U.S. business community, this development is particularly consequential, and many IACC members will need to evaluate its practical and financial implications in the weeks ahead.
For this reason, our upcoming Joint Trade & Tariffs Committee webinar on February 26 will now include a timely and in-depth analysis of the ruling and its real-world impact on bilateral trade, as well as on the day-to-day operations of importers, exporters, and companies across sectors whose business models are affected by tariff policy.
If you have already registered, we look forward to welcoming you to what now promises to be an even more relevant and practical discussion. If you have not yet done so, you may register by clicking HERE.
At a time of rapid policy evolution, the IACC remains committed to providing its members with practical guidance, expert insight and a forum for direct dialogue with leading voices in international trade matters.
Warm regards,
Federico Tozzi
Executive Director
