An extraordinary achievement for Italy in the women’s doubles luge: Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer, soldiers from the Army Sports Center – Winter Sports Section in Courmayeur, a department that reports to the Alpine Training Center, won the gold medal at the end of a flawless race, finishing with an extraordinary time of 1’46″284 on the Eugenio Monti track in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The Italian Alpine athletes, already in the lead after the first run, competed in a second run that was perfect in terms of precision, speed, and clean trajectories, consolidating their lead over their opponents and climbing to the top step of the podium.
The success has a strong Alpine imprint: Vötter and Oberhofer, as mentioned, are soldiers in the Italian Army and are part of the Courmayeur Winter Sports Section, which is part of the Alpine Training Center – Military School of Aosta, the heart of the Alpine Troops’ training. Having grown up athletically and athletically in this context, the two Alpine sledding specialists are fully integrated into the reality that prepares and trains military personnel destined to operate in mountainous environments and extreme conditions.
Their victory therefore represents not only a sporting success, but also an expression of the values of the Alpine Troops – discipline, esprit de corps, endurance, and the ability to face difficulties – which find a natural field of excellence in winter sports.
