Rome, 25 November 2023 – More than 5.5 million hirings planned by companies in 2023 with permanent or fixed-term contracts lasting more than 30 days; 330 thousand more than in 2022 (+6.4%) and almost 894 thousand more than in 2019 (+19.4%). This is the scenario outlined by the 2023 Annual Bulletin of the Excelsior Information System, implemented by Unioncamere and Anpal, and disseminated during the initiatives promoted as part of the 32nd edition of Job&Orienta, the orientation, school, training and work exhibition held in Verona.
The positive trend in employment in the private sector this year, despite less favourable economic conditions in the second half of the year, is due in particular to the driving effect of the tourism sector, which exceeds 1.1 million planned hirings (+160 thousand over 2022 and +291 thousand over 2019), trade, with almost 749 thousand contracts (+77 thousand and +59 thousand respectively), construction (+40 thousand and +177 thousand, for a total of 549 thousand hires) and manufacturing (with 957 thousand entries, +22 thousand over 2022 and +103 thousand over 2019).
The mismatch continues to increase for all sought-after profiles, standing at 45.1% of recruitments, up 4.6 percentage points on 2022 and 18.7 p.p. on 2019. In particular, the critical share for skilled workers reaches 60.3%.
For more than 8 out of 10 recruitments, candidates must have at least a secondary school qualification: more than 800,000 contracts for profiles with a tertiary education (university degree or ITS Academy) and more than 3.5 million positions offered for professions with a technical-professional qualification and vocational education and training. There are 65.5% of ITS Academy graduates, 49% university graduates and 46.9% of vocational/qualified graduates.
There are several factors that are determining the high mismatch rate recorded again this year – stresses Unioncamere president Andrea Prete – Certainly one lever on which we should act immediately is the orientation of young people. There are training courses, such as the ITS Academy, which ensure very high employment rates. These are well-considered choices that ensure great opportunities.
