The first meeting of the H2CE project partners dedicated to the development of green hydrogen solutions, coordinated by the regional partner Joint Spatial Planning Department Berlin-Brandenburg and organised by Unioncamere del Veneto, is taking place on 15 – 16 November 2023 at the Museo del’900 M9 in Mestre.
During the 2-day event, the 20 partners from all over Europe will visit the emerging Green Hydrogen Hub in Venice, in the port area of Porto Marghera, owned by the Sapio Group, a hydrogen producer for more than 100 years with a proven track record throughout the region.
The project for a Hydrogen Valley in Venice, born out of the collaboration between the Port Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea, Sapio and Hydrogen Park, is to transform the port ecosystem of the Venetian lagoon into a new hydrogen-based clean energy hub. As part of this initiative, Sapio has been awarded funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to build a renewable hydrogen production plant with a capacity of 5 MW, powered by a dedicated photovoltaic system built by Eco+eco srl of the Veritas Group.
The meeting of the H2CE project partners in Venice is the first in attendance, following the official presentation in April 2023 in Potsdam, Germany. In Venice, the H2CE consortium has the opportunity to consolidate collaboration on the development of the project and to take stock of the progress of the work.
The H2CE project addresses the needs of the European energy transition, with a special focus on easily replicable energy planning models at the local and regional level in Central Europe. The project enables interested regions to coordinate the development of hydrogen infrastructure and the integration of green hydrogen solutions into existing regional and spatial planning instruments.
Unioncamere del Veneto is the coordinator of the Work Package “H2-ready regions: Support mechanisms for energy system transition and participation” which aims to develop an energy system model to identify a cost-efficient hydrogen infrastructure and link it to a GIS-based tool that aligns interregional hydrogen transition projects and activities to identify gaps and improve its utilisation. Unioncamere has a role in facilitating and disseminating know-how to other bodies and institutions in the area and, above all, to the Veneto companies associated with the Veneto chamber network.
Sapio, founded in 1922 and headquartered in Monza, operates in the industrial and medical gases and homecare sectors throughout Italy, France, Germany, Slovenia, Turkey and Spain. With a turnover of over 800 million Euro and 2400 employees, it produces, develops and markets gases, innovative technologies and integrated services for the industrial sector. It is an active member of the national hydrogen association H2IT, Hydrogen Europe and the Clean Hydrogen Alliance.
Technical gases find application in every production sector, while in the health sector Sapio complements its production and supply of medical gases for hospital and socio-medical facilities with medical devices, integrated home care and palliative care. Sapio’s strategic objective is to become the best company to work for, invest in and buy from, setting an example for the ecosystem in which we live and providing products and services that make the planet safer, healthier and more liveable. With this vision and thanks to the new Inspire strategic plan (2023-2025), Sapio wants to become a leading player in industry, healthcare, clinical research services in Europe and the preferred partner for the implementation of the energy transition in Italy.
