Pius X returns to Riese, the wait is on. On 21 September inaugural event in the presence of the Bishop of Treviso. Nine months of work, now the relics have been reordered. The Museum also becomes virtual, on the web a 3D journey through Veneto rural history

Nine months of work, 350,000 euro invested by the City Council, two different spaces, now amalgamated in an exhibition itinerary that also becomes digital. The first, historic restoration of the Casetta del Papa di Riese Pio X (” Pius X Pope’s Little House”) has just been completed.

The solemn moment of the inauguration is set for the 21 September, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5.30 p.m. and the subsequent Holy Mass presided over by Bishop Michele Tomasi at 6.30 p.m. in the parish church. 21 September, moreover, is an important date for the faithful of the city of Rieti, as it is the feast day of the patron saint, Matthew.

In the meantime, the “peregrinatio corporis” of Pius X, scheduled from 6 to 15 October in the Treviso area (to be followed by the Padua and Venice areas), is drawing ever closer. Thousands of pilgrims are expected from all over the world. Information on events and bookings can be found at www.papapiox.it.

In the meantime, the Pope’s Little House (this is how the people of Rieti affectionately call the space) takes on new life. A journey that began years ago. Following the investigations and essays carried out at the Birthplace of Pius X, a number of critical conservation aspects were found.

It was therefore decided to recover all the architectural, constructive and decorative elements present in the building –  explains Matteo Guidolin, president of the Giuseppe Sarto Foundation and mayor of Riese Pio X. The project was carried out by Studio Scattola and approved by the Superintendency of Venice.

The project includes painting and maintenance work on the shutters of Casa Maggion, a building owned by the Foundation and home to the Foundation and the bookshop linked to the Birth Place. A space that in the future will also house the Archives of Pope Pius X and spaces for temporary and permanent exhibitions. This, now, is the real welcoming point for pilgrims, who, after immersing themselves in the history of the Veneto countryside and being moved by the votive offerings that decorate the house of Pius X, can make their way to the new, completely redesigned museum.

The Gatto Tonin Architetti studio, together with Otium Studio and Disma Srl, has reorganised the open pertinential areas, improved accessibility, redesigned exhibition stands and integrated new technological equipment to support the exhibition itinerary. The reorganisation of the museum itinerary was carried out by Disma Srl, with the preparation of the introductory panels and the content of the captions that make the museum ‘speak’.

But this is not enough. On the occasion of the restoration, the online ‘descent’ of the Casetta was also planned (from 29 September on www.papapiox.it), to meet the needs of the faithful and historians, often emigrants, who want to visit the structure from all over the world.

The restoration was the subject of a digital storytelling intervention by Wow Solution. “The objective is to make the museum visit accessible and usable in a virtual way, with particular attention to photorealistic rendering and the inclusion of content enriched with textual and multimedia insights,” explains CEO, Andrea Pilotto. “Through virtual art direction and the construction of immersive content, it will be possible to exploit this tool with a view to promotion and presentation, showing the restoration activities also to those who have not yet visited the Pio X Museum”.

21 September will also be remembered for the inauguration of the new route dedicated to Religious Poetry at the A. Zanzotto Poetry Park, which will take place a few minutes before the one at the Casetta. In this case, the route was created in collaboration with the “Religious Poetry Prize of Camposampiero”: a committee of experts chose which poems to bring to Riese.

From Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th pilgrims will be able to venerate the body of St Pius X according to the timetable published on www.papapiox.it. The “aux flambeaux” processions from the garden of the town hall of Riese Pio X to the Cendrole Sanctuary on 10, 12 and 13 October will be presided over by Bishop Tomasi and animated by the various vicariates of the Diocese, with the prayer of the rosary and litanies of the saints.

On Sunday 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barchessa Municipio, the special philatelic cancellation “Peregrinatio corporis di san Pio X”. Organised by the ‘Giuseppe Sarto’ collecting club.
