Rocca Pietore, 07 July 2023 – The future of glaciers passes through Marmolada with a unique exhibition: in fact, from 10 July to 17 September – in the multifunctional hall of Serauta – “Glaciers, the future of perennial ice in our hands“, a photographic journey of discovery of the white giants between exploration and climate change, will be held. The initiative sees the collaboration between Marmolada srl, the cableway company, and the Muse, the Trento Science Museum.
It is a project that we strongly supported to inform and raise awareness on a topic that should concern everyone: the state of health of our mountains, says Patrick Pomarè, director of Marmolada srl. The events of a year ago are an open wound for all those who live and work in the highlands; reflecting on the future of glaciers must be a common commitment, shared by institutions, private individuals, local communities, visitors, enthusiasts and tourists. We, for one, want to make our contribution to a living, sustainable mountain.
We will provide our guests, Pomarè continues, with all the necessary information on the subject. We will do this with a strictly scientific approach alongside the Muse, which has long had an important section dedicated to glaciers and the authoritative presence in its team of an expert and passionate glaciologist such as Christian Casarotto.
In addition to Casarotto, the exhibition is also curated by Alberto Trenti, director of Meteotrentino, under the supervision of Michele Lanzinger, director of the Muse and president of Icom Italia, the Italian committee representing museums worldwide.
The exhibition offers a snapshot of the glaciers that cover our planet: from their geographical distribution to the scientific activities that reveal their state of health and the impact of climate change. Space will then be given to explorations on glaciological paths, with the observations of the first glaciologists and the discovery of Ötzi. There will also be historical events and myths linked to the most inhospitable places in the mountain environment. Of course, the Marmolada massif will also be part of this ‘tale’ in images.
It will be an experience of high scientific and popular value, at an altitude of 3000 metres. We ask our visitors to linger a few minutes, conclude from Marmolada srl.
The exhibition will be accessible free of charge throughout the summer on the third floor of the Serauta cable car station. For info www.funiviemarmolada.com
