Goffredo Parise was an Italian writer, journalist, screenwriter, essayist and poet.
His House Museum, located in Ponte di Piave, is part of an ancient barchessa, which the writer had restored, furnishing it with furniture, paintings and books brought from Rome. “… I am with great satisfaction in the new house, between two gardens, beautiful, spacious, the first real “home” of my life.”
It was in this house that he spent the last two years of his life and aware of the seriousness of his physical condition, he decided to donate it to the community of Ponte di Piave. The writer’s intentions behind this gesture are also revealed on the occasion of the honorary degree awarded to him by the Faculty of Arts in Padua: “… Perhaps the time has come for my work as a laughable writer to also be put on a shelf, in that millimetric charnel house that it deserves.” With these words, then, he expressed his desire to entrust his art to future users of the house. The writer’s ashes rest in the garden under a copy of a Brancusi sculpture that he himself had indicated as his burial stele.
In donating this ‘House of Culture’ to the municipality of Ponte di Piave, Goffredo Parise stipulated that the donation should also include everything it contained, thus including the archive, which gathers a part of his manuscripts and correspondence, the collection of his publications and articles, and a large collection of articles on him published until 1986.
Over the years, other materials were collected and dissertations were written on the author.
At the end of the 1980s, the Centro Studi Goffredo Parise association was founded, which, according to its statute, ‘aims to promote initiatives that interpret and study in depth the work of Goffredo Parise’; it is made up of writers and friends of Parise and over the years it has carried out many initiatives, from the arrangement of the archive to exhibitions and conferences on the author, from activities with schools to the publication of a volume on the archive.
The Goffredo Parise Literary Prize has been established in his honour, with important territorial and institutional collaborations.
