Meeting on Rising Antisemitism in Europe with Commissioner Brunner
26 June 2025 – In light of the concerning increase in antisemitic incidents across Europe and globally, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, met with representatives from leading Brussels based umbrella Jewish organisations to show solidarity, listen to their concerns and look into practical ways to ensure that Jewish communities are safe and supported throughout Europe.
Commissioner Magnus Brunner stated: “Standing up against antisemitism and hatred is not optional — it is a responsibility we all share to safeguard our democracy and core principles. The fight against antisemitism must be systematically included in EU policy, including security and countering extremism. I will raise these important security issues with national authorities.”
The Commission Coordinator addresses the IHRA Plenary
As Permanent International Partner of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), the European Commission was represented by the Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Katharina von Schnurbein, at the first Plenary under the Israeli Presidency that was held online between 23-26 June 2025.
Katharina von Schnurbein addressed the Plenary session as well as the ‘Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust denial’. The 35 Member States of International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance have adoped by unanimity a strong statement, calling on local, regional, and national governmental agencies to protect Holocaust remembrance practitioners from antisemitic and distortionist threats and attacks.
As Permanent Internation Partner of the IHRA, the European Commission welcomes this call and underlines its urgency.

The European Commission published is call for proposal on ‘Fighting against antisemitism’. This topic is one of the six priorities of the call for proposals for EU action grants to promote equality and to fight against racism, xenophobia and all other forms of discrimination under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Value Programme (CERV).
