Giovanni Battista Cima was born in Conegliano around 1459-60. The artist kept strong ties with his hometown frequently depicting in his paintings his
birthplace on the mainland-the walled, riverside town with the old castle of Conegliano or the San Salvatore castle in Susegana, the surrounding hills along the Piave river valley.
European and American artists and collectors much appreciated and admired the works of Giovanni Battista Cima who absorbed lessons from Giovanni Bellini, Antonio Vivarini and Giorgione.
In Conegliano you will find the former artist’s parental house which now holds the the Cima da Congliano Museum, the The Virgin and Child Enthroned with
Angels and Saints altarpiece at the Duomoand the Saint John the Baptistcontained in the San Fior church.
