Treviso, March 22 2025. The comment of President Mario Pozza
In 2024, the export of Treviso is slightly down: -1.7% compared to 2023. – comments Mario Pozza, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso and Belluno Dolomiti. It is a figure in line with the export performance of Veneto that, in the same period, fall by -1.8%. For Belluno the decline on an annual basis is -4.9%. These results confirm already-observed trends. For Treviso, the slight decline is the average of trends for different sectors. Exports of beverages and food products are growing, confirming the dynamics of previous quarters. Machinery exports remain stable, a result not to be taken for granted given that there is still low propensity to invest. There is, however a significant reduction in exports for the fashion sector (textile-clothing and footwear), the automative components and metallic carpentry.
For Belluno, the decline is mostly attributable to eyewear. This item accounts for three quarters of provincial sales abroad. A negative double-digit change is also observed for machinery. Growing is the third item of Belluno’s exports: electronics/medical devices or measuring products. For Treviso weighs, as expected, the German crisis: in one year Treviso exports have been reduced by almost -200 million euros (-8.5% in percentage values). Despite this decline, the German market remains the largest export value: in 2024 for the province is valued more than 2 billion euros. For Belluno, germany is the third largest export market after USA and France with almost 450 million euros. Also for Belluno exports are in decrease: of more than -21 million euro (-4.6%).
The data at the end of the year was also an opportunity to take stock of export flows to the US market. For Treviso, the United States, with almost 1.4 billion euros in exports, repreents the third partner after Germany and France. Two-third of the sales were made by five provincial production specializations: beverages (mainly wine, in particular Prosecco DOC and DOCG), machinery, furniture, sporting goods and home appliances. Compared to 2023, exports to the USA increased by 5.1%. The increase was mainly due to the beverages export (+20.0%). If this result can also be attributed as a sales anticipation due to the change in commercial policies of the new U.S. administration, we could assess it, however, in the coming months.
For Belluno the export to the USA is determined for the most part by eyewear. Compared to 2023, sales are down – a predictable result given the sectoral composition (possibly also due to the reorganizations of the global value chains). These data confirm that the German and US markets significantly contribute to the realization of provincial exports, both for Treviso and Belluno. They therefore represent important business opportunities for our companies, but also have a strong component of uncertainty, as is the current current scenario.
As a Chamber of Commerce we are committed to supporting the competitiveness of our companies abroad, also by encouraging the diversification of markets. – concludes Pozza also in the role of President of Assocamerestero – Right in Treviso, at the end of January, it was organized a free event which gave the opportunity to discover business opportunities in key sectors such as mechanics, fashion system, hospital supplies, home system in emerging markets like Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Mozambique, Bulgaria, Colombia. Without forgetting those established as the same American state of New York.
In mid-October – informs President Pozza – we will host the PYMES Forum in Treviso, welcoming delegates from 20 countries of Latin America and central America. During the three days of the event, participants will have the opportunity to visit our companies and take part in B2B and B2C meetings with a particular focus on Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia.
