A new generation of entrepreneurs

Innovative design and sustainability represent a necessary development direction for companies in the wood-furniture sector in order to respond to an increasingly attentive consumer and a binding regulatory framework.

The “Contemporary Woodworkers” project aims to address these themes in a transversal manner and to develop them by promoting a positive contamination and effective collaboration between entrepreneurs, architects and future designers, favouring the creation of a new generation of professionals in the sector capable of creating products designed according to a circular approach that takes into account their reuse and regeneration and that is attentive to the origin of the materials used.

A new generation of entrepreneurs

An ancient craft that looks resolutely to the future. “FALEGNAMI CONTEMPORANEI” is the challenge launched by Confartigianato Imprese Marca Trevigiana to create a new generation of entrepreneurs in the wood/furniture sector. The project sees the strategic alliance of entrepreneurs, architects and IUAV students, brought together for the first time to talk about design, sustainability and communication. In the background, the common awareness of having to respond to an increasingly attentive consumer and an increasingly binding regulatory framework.
A challenge that looks to the 1,535 craft businesses in the wood-furnishing sector with their 4,251 employees, data that place Treviso in first place among the provinces of Veneto. The watchword of the future is contamination. “Falegnami contemporanei” creates, in this sense, a collaborative and immersive environment, where the skills of craftsmen, architects and future designers come together to create products designed according to a circular approach, which takes into account their reuse and regeneration and is attentive to the origin of the raw materials that are used.
Many actions will take place over the course of 2024: a matching day with professionals enrolled by the Order of Architects of the Province of Treviso, a competition of ideas that will be developed through four workshops with aspiring designers who will design with and for companies, and a concluding event in which the experiences gained in this articulated course will be recounted and the projects realised in the university’s laboratories can be admired.
The launch event is scheduled for 29 February at 6.00 p.m. at the Association’s headquarters (piazza delle Istituzioni 34/a – Treviso) and will feature speeches by Dario Scodeller, coordinator of the Degree Course in Industrial Product Design at the University of Ferrara, and Fabrizio Panozzo, director of the Aiku centre – art enterprise culture at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. This was followed by the testimony of Maurizio Zordan, president of Zordan srl.
A day of one-to-one meetings is planned for June: companies will meet architects registered with the Order of the Province of Treviso. An opportunity to facilitate mutual acquaintance of the sector players in our province, create new opportunities for commercial and productive collaboration, and develop the sharing of ideas and projects.
Four workshops with students from the IUAV University of Venice (product and interior design) will start in September, in cooperation with a number of companies. Projects and realisations will have to respond to principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability and aim to minimise environmental impact.
The concluding event, scheduled for November, will feature an exhibition of the workshop results and the return of the achievements.
