PIETAS
BASED ON THE NOVEL BY VIRMAN CUSENZA ‘GAMBLERS
“Storia di Enzo Paroli, l’antifascista che salvò il giornalista di Mussolini” (Mondadori)TEATRO LA STANZA
TUESDAY 9 MAY 8 pm

What drives the lawyer Enzo Paroli, socialist and anti-fascist, to risk his career to save Telesio Interlandi, accused of “collaborationism” with the Nazi invader, from justice? What does he see in that man hunted by his own guilt? A loser, certainly, a vanquished who found himself on the wrong side of history, but who deserves to be defended above all as a man. It is the value of life that must be saved, regardless of the errors committed: against the death penalty. Inspired by a feeling of ‘pietas’, Paroli’s gesture is an act of humanity, of solidarity that breaks down dividing lines, iron curtains and walls, even if it has nothing to do with forgiveness.
