Valdobbiadene, January 19, 2024 – We would like to thank the Region of Veneto for deciding to join and support “Ecolog – Polo logistico Conegliano Valdobbiadene,” an important project that brings together the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the Municipality of Valdobbiadene, the Consortium for the Protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Docg, Coldiretti Treviso and Banca Prealpi SanBiagio and that represents an environmental breakthrough for the UNESCO hills. The brainchild of Coldiretti Treviso, inspired by the best practice of the Langhe Roero e Monferrato UNESCO site, the logistics hub was born out of a desire to intervene on the issue of the road system within the entire World Heritage site, which, partly because of the unique morphology of the landscape, has not been able to have the evolution necessary to withstand the amount of traffic generated by the economic development of the area. We have always said to ourselves that one of the key elements of the management plan for the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills Site is precisely 360-degree sustainability, and to see all these parties united in this direction is truly an excellent achievement. In fact, the use of green means in the area will have two great advantages: savings, up to 40% of CO2, and the limitation of the use of heavy vehicles, such as trucks, with positive effects both on the road system and on the status quo of roads and landscape.
With these words Marina Montedoro, President of the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, comments on the Veneto Region’s adherence to and support of the Ecolog project, on the UNESCO World Heritage territory.
The project includes the implementation of a feasibility study on the territory to verify the feasibility of the logistics hub and now, with the support of the Region, will see the implementation and promotion of a software needed to manage it, addressing the typical and specific needs of this area.
The ultimate goal of Ecolog, which will start on an experimental basis in the municipality of Valdobbiadene, is the use of low-emission green vehicles that will take care of the rapid pickup and storage of goods to and from the area’s wineries during certain predefined days. If the trial is successful, the project will be extended to the whole territory.
