Vittorio Veneto (TV), April 27, 2023 – “The candidacy of the territory of the Area Programmatic Understanding Terre Alte della Marca Trevigiana and the municipalities that are part of it, led by the Municipality of Pieve di Soligo, represents the continuation of a collective and community path of cultural-landscape enhancement undertaken in recent years, starting with the UNESCO candidacy of our Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene to the participation in the call for Italian Capital of Culture 2022. The trait d’union of this territory is the landscape, a unique example in which the strong interaction between man and the environment has determined its uniqueness and specificity and defines its meaning and identity. It will be the landscape, in concert with music, that will act as a natural stage for the 130 cultural initiatives that will animate our Hills over the next 8 months, with the intention of restoring to residents and tourists the perception of places through music and the stimulation of the imagination through listening.”
These were the words of Marina Montedoro, president of the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, at the presentation at the Vittorio Veneto Battle Museum of the schedule of musical and cultural events called “Music for the Landscape, Music in the Landscape,” with which the territory of the Marca Trevigiana was awarded the title of Venetian Capital of Culture 2023. For the first time since the establishment of the award in fact, to apply and win the prize for the Venetian City of Culture, out of 18 nominations, was not a single municipality, but a network of cities, a territory that looks to the future together and that makes the systemic enhancement of territorial specificities the strategic asset of development and enhancement”.
“Identity, culture, tradition. But also respect for the environment and the development of sustainable and widespread tourism. These are the key words of this award. – Luca Zaia, President of the Veneto Region, comments. The Prosecco Hills are a fast-growing reality: the Veneto Region has, for years, initiated important work that has led – with numerous interlocutors and partners – to develop an area once relegated to mere agricultural production. Today the Hills are a globally recognized reality that will attract many new visitors: a unique model of sustainable development, where traditional identity is expressed in culture and passion.”
“I express all my satisfaction and that of the territory for this prestigious recognition of Venetian City of Culture 2023. – underlined IPA president and mayor of Pieve di Soligo, Stefano Soldan – It is another opportunity for public administrations, associations and institutions in the territory to work together in promoting and enhancing events and culture. I believe that this experience will change the perception of the area for the better and will be a flywheel for the enhancement of local talent. Being able to articulate such a broad, complex and widespread program was not easy, which is why I would like to thank the mayors of the area, the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene all the IPA staff, as well as all the associations, institutes and foundations that gave their contribution and the Smartland study, and in particular Professor Federico Dalla Puppa, for coordinating the project.”
