“With just a few days to go before the 2026 edition ofProsecco Cycling, scheduled for Sunday, September 27—an event that has now become an integral part of the Veneto region’s sporting and tourism heritage—we enthusiastically welcome the expansion of the partnership for the World Cycling Sustainable Events project. This initiative was launched in 2021 in the Veneto region, based on an idea by the organizers of Prosecco Cycling, from the splendid Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene—which, we should note, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and which now extends to Japan and the United States. In total, this project dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility currently includes six major events spanning four continents in the name of the environment, to foster shared responsibility in protecting the planet.”

Vice President and Regional Councilor for Tourism, Lucas Pavanetto, presented the new partnership for the World Cycling Sustainable Events project today at Palazzo Balbi. With the addition of the Cycling Shimanami (Onomichi-Imabari, Japan) and El Tour de Tucson (Tucson, USA), the number of major events for cycling enthusiasts included in the project has risen to six. The others are the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in New York, the Cape Town Cycle Tour, and the RBC GranFondo Whistler in Vancouver.

Also speaking at the press conference were Luciano Fregonese, Mayor of Valdobbiadene; Marina Montedoro, President of the Association for the Heritage of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene; Raffaele Freda, representing the Province of Treviso; and Massimo Stefani, CEO of Prosecco Cycling/WCSE; Koji Takase, Managing Director of the Cycling Shimanami Executive Committee and Director of the Tourism and Exchanges Subdivision within the Department of Tourism, Sports, and Culture of the Ehime Prefectural Government; and TJ Juskiewicz, Executive Director of El Tour de Tucson in the U.S.

World Cycling Sustainable Events is an initiative for the promotion and development of environmental sustainability, launched by Prosecco Cycling with the goal of encouraging sustainable mobility through the use of bicycles as a means of transportation and identifying tools to promote the creation of sporting events, bike routes, and bike paths focused on environmental protection and sustainability.
