Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto was born in the town of Riese in the Veneto region of Italy. Pius X’s coronation took place on August 9, 1903. When tango reached its peak of
popularity in the early 1900’s it was condemned by papal bulls along with other dances such as polka and waltz. In Europe, dancing tango proved to be too popular to declare off-limits, thus the
papal ban on tango was lifted. Some people claim that after having witnessed a demonstration of the dance the Pope mocked tango as one of the dullest things imaginable trying to renew
people interest in the Furlana, a Venetian dance.

Not far from Treviso you can find the St. Pius X Museum and the Pope’s parental home, then you can take a
break at the Brion Cemetery in San Vito D’Altivole, one of the most important works by Carlo Scarpa. Here you can find the graves created for the members of the Brion family, the
founders of the Brion-Vega electronics company. If you ever travel to Treviso, come to visit this evocative place where you can take some time to reflect and talk to your soul.
