Treviso – Belluno, 7 May 2024 – The Chamber of Commerce Council began today with a minute’s silence to commemorate the work-related deaths that occurred in Palermo and, as President Pozza pointed out, a few days ago in province of Treviso, in the municipality of Fontanelle, and all throughout Italy.
These tragedies are very often caused by inexperience and a failure to comply with safety regulations or by a lack of knowledge of them, and the evidence is mounting.
If the data are there for everyone to see, the question is: how can we stop these tragedies?
I am certain, – comments President Mario Pozza, – that a culture of risk awareness is indispensable on the part of companies, but also on the part of workers, who must be responsible for applying the devices indicated for their own safety. We know that knowledge is the best prevention. People’s safety and lives cannot be subordinated to haste, to unclear chains of control, to workers placed in medium-high risk contexts without adequate training and, if they come from other countries, without knowledge of the language related to the work environment. This is an issue we are also considering in the working table on immigration, opened with the Prefecture of Treviso. But it is a broader signal we want to send: the network of institutions is present on these issues, and it can certainly help companies to perform well and do good business.
