On Monday, the European Commission launched the Digital Product Passport (DPP) Registry.

The DPP will contain information on different products, such as their origin, reuse options, use instructions or regulatory compliance; usually available through a QR code or similar digital carrier. It will increase the transparency of supply chains and help consumers make informed choices.

The new Registry creates a secure and central hub to allow hosting of the metadata linked to the DPPs, such as their unique identifiers, without storing data on the specific products that stay with economic operators or DPP service providers. A part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, it will host information on digital product passports in textiles, steel, aluminum, tires, furniture, ICT and energy-related products, as well as those included in sectoral legislation, such as construction products, toys, and detergents.

The Registry is an essential step to enable the full application of the DPP to different products, with the first one set to apply to certain kinds of batteries as of 18 February 2027.

To accompany the Register, the Commission has launched a helpdesk service and a testing environment to support stakeholders getting ready for the DPP rollout. This complements the recently-created, dedicated DPP website with guidance, technical documentation and support tools ahead of the February 2027 deadline for the application of DPP to certain types of large batteries.

More information on the DPP Registry is available online.
