Grants for R&D: SBIR and STTR – April 16 @ 11 a.m.
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) with the potential for commercialization. By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated, and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.
On April 16, members are invited to join Man-Li Lin, Economic Development Specialist for the Small Business Administration (SBA), for an informative workshop during which participants will learn about several aspects of the SBIR and STTR programs, including: the funding phase process, eligibility requirements, the SBA’s role, participating federal agencies, online tutorials and the tips of proposal writing.

How the SBA Can Help Your Business: Capital, Counseling and Contracting – May 15 @ 11:00 a.m.

The Small Business Administration helps businesses get capital by guaranteeing loans, assists businesses with obtaining government contracts, and provides counseling in the form of training and support for small business owners. In this practical workshop, SBA Economic Development Specialist Man-Li Lin will explore the “three Cs”–capital, counseling and contracting–and provide information on available financing programs, including: SBA’s Lender Match; Readiness is All; Financing Programs including Loans: 7(a), 504, Microloan, International Trade Loans, Surety Bonds, Grants for R&D; Investment Capital, Disaster Assistance; Business Education/One-on-One Counseling through SCORE, SBDC and WBC; and Government Contracting including Certifications: Socially and Economically Disadvantaged, Women-owned, Service-Disabled-Veteran-owned, Historically Under-utilized Business Zone.

Meet the Lenders – June 11 @ 11:00 a.m.
Join us on June 11 at 11 a.m. for “Meet the Lenders,” offered in partnership with the Small Business Administration. Accelerate Your Business in the USA: Financing Opportunities Available Through SIMEST – March 5
In collaboration with SIMEST, Piazza Italia, Assocamerestero and Conferenza delle Regioni e delle Province Autonome, the IACC recently hosted webinar on financing opportunities available through SIMEST, whose mission is to support Italian companies at every stage of the internationalization process, from the initial decision to enter a new market to expansion through direct investments. Speakers included: Federico Tozzi, Executive Director, IACC; Mario Pozza, President, Assocamerestero; Alberto Milani, Chairman & Co-Founder, Piazza Italia and Carlo De Simone, Director of Economic Development, SIMEST.

Italian Flavors: A Culinary Collective Delegation at the NGA Show in Las Vegas – March 10-12
From March 10-12, a delegation comprised of some of Italy’s top food and beverage brands traveled to Las Vegas to exhibit with the IACC at the annual NGA Show, organized by the National Grocers Association. IACC members Bindi, Consorzio del Parmigiano Reggiano, Coop Italian Food North America, Garofalo, Monini, Pomì and Resi exhibited at the show, which is the lagest industry gathering of grocery retailers and wholesalers in the U.S.
While there, the IACC delegation, “Italian Flavors: A Culinary Collective,” delighted visitors by serving a sampling of top-tier Italian specialty foods from a custom-designed food truck and hosted “Eat, Live, Buy Italian,” a multi-course tasting dinner and brand showcase for industry executives at the Venetian’s Canaletto Restaurant. Thanks to the National Grocers Association for a great show and to Bindi, Consorzio del Parmigiano Reggiano, Coop Italian Food North America, Garofalo, Monini, Pomì and Resi for helping us showcase the best of Italy in Las Vegas!

WEBINAR: Empower Women-Owned Small Businesses – March 14
On March 14, the IACC and the Small Business Administration commemorated International Women’s Month by partnering to offer “Empower WOSB,” a virtual workshop designed to provide female entrepreneurs with practical information and tools to help them build their businesses. During the program, participants learned about programs and assistance for women-owned businesses, as well as the Women-Owned Small Business and Economic Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business certifications for government contracting.

Aperitivo Italiano “Refer-a-Friend” Social – March 27
IACC members and friends gathered at Spring Place on March 27 to mix, mingle and get to know other IACC members over drinks at Tribeca’s hip members-only club. Thanks to all who attended as well as to our gracious host, IACC member Spring Place, for an elegant and enjoyable evening of cocktails, conversation and networking!

J:1 Visa Spotlight: Massimo Zancai, Project Manager and Designer at Euroluxe Interiors
Meet IACC J-1 exchange visitor Massimo Zancai, who is currently thirteen months into his training program at Euroluxe Interiors, a full-service interior design studio offering clients European luxury within reach. Massimo’s training program has provided him with exposure to American taste and standards for home design and has given him the opportunity to interact directly with American clients, builders and architects while he hones his business and project management skills by overseeing functional kitchen and bath design projects. “Though I came into this traineeship with 20 years of experience in my field, the exposure I gained to the American taste for furnishing and managing spaces in a home was something I never could have learned in Italy. U.S. work culture is amazing–there is such a sense of respect for employees here–and I am so grateful to the IACC for the chance to train in the ‘land of opportunity!'”

J-1 Visa Program Expands to Serve Two New Occupational Categories
We are excited to announce that the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has recently granted the IACC the authority to approve intern and trainee visas in the fields of Hospitality & Tourism and Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics and Industrial Occupations. This amendment to our exchange visitor program significantly expands the breadth and scope of our activity and enables us to serve a greater number of candidates and host companies in a variety of occupational fields. Molteni&C Opens New Flagship Store in Washington, D.C.
Molteni&C recently inaugurated its newest flagship Store in Washington, D.C., demonstrating the brand’s rapid growth in the contemporary design scene on the American market. EYE Success Story – Edoardo Ferrari at Italia Development Group
Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) program is a cross-border exchange program which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in the United States. We caught up with EYE exchange participant, Edoardo Ferrari, who recently completed an internship at Italia Development Group (IDG), a full-service brand development agency operating in Europe and the United States.
As an entrepreneur himself, Edoardo joined the IDG team with a strong foundation in sustainable architecture, engineering and inclusive development. During the course of his internship, Edoardo had the opportunity to expand his skill set, learning about intricate business processes, creating new product designs for luxury franchise concepts, designing retail spaces and developing a sustainable design portfolio.
“During my internship with the IDG team, I was able delve into my passion for sustainable design architecture and to improve my sales, networking, and English language skills. I am incredibly grateful to Italia Development Group and the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce for giving me this opportunity.”

Certified Origins Publishes Insights on the Olive Oil Industry
IACC member Certified Origins is pleased to share the March edition of its Olive Oil Market Report, which illustrates how recent rainfall in the Mediterranean region, particularly in the Iberian Peninsula, is bringing some much-needed relief from the devastating drought that has caused a sharp decline in Spanish olive oil production over the past two years and a diffused cost increase in all producing countries. Farmers, cooperatives and producers are beginning to share optimism about the upcoming olive harvest and oil production and the average market cost of extra virgin and other olive oils shows stability for the first time in recent months.
