La Presidente von der Leyen e il Presidente Costa partecipano oggi al primo vertice UE-Asia centrale a Samarcanda, in Uzbekistan, dove le due regioni hanno lanciato il loro nuovo partenariato strategico.
Questo partenariato migliorerà in modo significativo la cooperazione dell’UE con i Paesi dell’Asia centrale: Kazakistan, Kirghizistan, Tagikistan, Turkmenistan e Uzbekistan.
Per promuovere i progressi nella cooperazione tra l’UE e l’Asia centrale, la Presidente von der Leyen ha annunciato un pacchetto di investimenti Gateway del valore di 12 miliardi di euro.
Attraverso il Team Europe, il pacchetto di investimenti promuoverà gli investimenti nei trasporti, nelle materie prime essenziali, nell’energia pulita e nella connettività digitale.
In primo luogo, per quanto riguarda i trasporti, attraverso il corridoio di trasporto transcaspico l’UE sta già sostenendo un viaggio via terra più breve dall’Europa all’Asia centrale, dimezzandolo. Un Forum degli investitori, che si terrà nel corso dell’anno, porterà ulteriori investimenti privati e seguirà i progressi compiuti.
In secondo luogo, il Presidente ha annunciato una nuova Dichiarazione congiunta sulle materie prime critiche con l’Asia centrale. Questa iniziativa mira a creare una vera cooperazione in questo settore e a sviluppare l’industria locale lungo la catena del valore delle materie prime critiche.
In terzo luogo, per quanto riguarda l’acqua, l’energia e il clima, progetti di investimento massicci come la diga di Rogun in Tagikistan e la diga di Kambarata in Kirghizistan sosterranno l’Asia centrale nel diventare una centrale energetica pulita.
Infine, l’UE intende espandere la distribuzione della sua rete di satelliti per fornire connettività digitale alle scuole e ai villaggi remoti della regione. Ciò consentirà di collegare le comunità e le persone e di attrarre nuovi investimenti e attività commerciali nella regione.

President von der Leyen and President Costa are participating in the first EU-Central Asia summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan today, where the two regions launched their new Strategic Partnership.
This Partnership will significantly upgrade the EU’s cooperation with Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
To boost advancements in the cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, President von der Leyen announced a Gateway Investment Package worth €12 billion.
Through Team Europe, the investment package will drive investments in transport, critical raw materials, clean energy and digital connectivity.
Firstly, on transport, through the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor the EU is already supporting a shorter overland journey from Europe to Central Asia, cutting it by half. An Investors Forum later this year will bring additional private investments and track progress.
Secondly, the President announced a new Joint Declaration on Critical Raw Materials with Central Asia. This initiative aims to create true cooperation in this sector and develop the local industry along the critical raw materials value chain.
Third, on water, energy and climate: massive investment projects like the Rogun Dam in Tajikistan and the Kambarata Dam in Kyrgyzstan will support Central Asia in becoming a clean energy powerhouse.
Finally, the EU plans to expand the deployment of its network of satellites to provide digital connectivity to schools and remote villages across the region. This will connect communities and people and attract new investments and business to the region.
